So decide what you\u2019re interested in and plan well \u2013 here are the best places to visit in the UK.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"article__quote\">\n<p>From the waves breaking against the White Cliffs of Dover to the soaring Scottish Highlands,\u00a0the UK\u00a0is an ancient and starkly beautiful land<\/p>\n<p>Experts at\u00a0Lonely Planet<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The first Scottish entry on the list is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/edinburgh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Edinburgh<\/a>, and it comes in sixth place.<\/p>\n<p>Experts were impressed with the capital city&#8217;s stunning landscape and the incredible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/castle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">castle<\/a> that stands proud on the hill and overlooks the area.<\/p>\n<p>They praised it for being &#8220;one of the most majestic cities in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Europe<\/a>&#8220;, adding that it should be on everyone&#8217;s travel list.<\/p>\n<p>But what really sealed its ranking was the range of &#8220;beguiling bookshops&#8221; it has across the city.<\/p>\n<p>The North Coast 500: Scotland\u2019s Must-Visit Road Trip Beats the Grand Canyon<\/p>\n<p>Lonely Planet said: &#8220;With its ethereal spires, multilayered topography and hilltop castle, Edinburgh is one of the most majestic cities in Europe, let alone Britain. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s also long been a favourite haunt of writers, and its homegrown scribes include the likes of Robert Louis Stevenson, Muriel Spark and Sir Walter Scott.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Needless to say, there are many excellent bookshops to peruse amid these handsome streets. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With its well-stuffed shelves and the distinct musty smell,\u00a0Armchair Books\u00a0in the Old Town is the perfect secondhand bookstore.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While over in Portobello, the\u00a0Portobello Bookshop\u00a0is sleek and airy, and great for modern contemporary fiction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Edinburgh\u2019s a wonderfully inclusive city too, and\u00a0Lighthouse Bookshop\u00a0celebrates all books queer and LGBTIQ+. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Over in Stockbridge,\u00a0Rare <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/birds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Birds<\/a> Books\u00a0champions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">women<\/a>&#8216;s writing, only selling books by female authors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Scottish Islands also made the list and came in ninth.<\/p>\n<p>The Western Isles are famous for their beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/beaches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">beaches<\/a> and massive range of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/wildlife\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wildlife<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The experts also hailed them as having the best wild scenery across the UK and were impressed with its crystal clear waters.<\/p>\n<p>Full list of the best 11 places to visit in the UK<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content--intro\">HERE is the full rankings of Lonely Planet&#8217;s top 11 locations to visit across Britian.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>London <\/strong>&#8211; Best for historic treasures<\/li>\n<li><strong>Giant\u2019s Causeway<\/strong> &#8211; Best for natural heritage<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>But the highlight was the fact that it is the best location for &#8220;distillery hopping&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>They said: &#8220;The islands flanking the western shore of\u00a0Scotland\u2019s\u00a0mainland are as ancient as they are dramatic, and make for one of the UK\u2019s most otherworldly experiences.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Start with the underrated Arran, often called &#8216;Scotland in Miniature&#8217;
