In a written response sent to POLITICO, a French diplomatic official said Paris would \u201ccontinue to monitor the situation\u201d and back efforts from Belgium to \u201cfind a solution to prevent the destruction of contraceptives, so that they can reach the women and men who need them and are waiting for them around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Belgium\u2019s Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Pr\u00e9vot told the AFP newswire that his government had \u201cinitiated diplomatic talks with the U.S. Embassy in Brussels\u201d and is currently \u201cexploring all possible avenues to prevent the destruction of these products, including temporary relocation solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n
A European Commission spokesperson said they had \u201ctaken note of [Camara\u2019s] letter and acknowledge the concerns raised.\u201d<\/p>\n
The spokesperson also underlined that NGOs and international organizations including United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and MSI Reproductive Choices had made an offer to the U.S. to pick up the contraceptives, \u201cthough without result so far.\u201d<\/p>\n
