Hull City are in talks with Leeds United over a move for Joe Gelhardt with the two clubs trying to strike a deal which would see the striker return to the MKM Stadium.<\/p>\n
Gelhardt<\/a> spent the second half of last season on loan at City<\/a> and played a key role in helping the Tigers stay in the Championship with five crucial goals.<\/p>\n The Liverpudlian is out of contract<\/a> in West Yorkshire next summer, and has been told to find a move away from Elland Road<\/a> before the transfer window closes, along with Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford.<\/p>\n He has not featured in any public pre-season outings this summer as the Whites gear up for their Premier League return, though he has played in behind-closed-doors games as part of his fitness schedule.<\/p>\n Hull Live understands talks are well advanced with Leeds to get a season-long loan deal completed this week, which would be another huge boost to Sergej Jakirovic ahead of the new season kicking off at Coventry City on Saturday.<\/p>\n It is understood Gelhardt has expressed his determination to return to the MKM Stadium after a positive spell in East Yorkshire last season and made it clear to Elland Road bosses he wanted to pursue a deal with the Tigers.<\/p>\n Prior to departing, Gelhardt made clear his feelings about City<\/a> and it’s that desire to return which has been pivotal in the club pursuing a deal this summer.<\/p>\n Head coach Sergej Jakirovic is thought to have been impressed with Gelhardt’s impact last season and believes that, under his tutelage, he can be successful again this term.<\/p>\n It’s believed Gelhardt’s salary doubled immediately following United’s promotion to the top flight, owing to a clause in his Elland Road contract, but common ground has been found to facilitate the move.<\/p>\n If, as expected, the Tigers get Gelhardt through the door at the MKM Stadium, he would provide valuable firepower in the top third of the pitch as Jakirovic looks to banish the goal struggles of last season.<\/p>\n City have so far only signed striker Enis Destan up front, but are closing in on the capture of Oli McBurnie<\/a> after spending much of the summer trying to sign the 29-year-old having agreed terms with the 29-year-old.<\/p>\n A move for Croatian frontman Matija Frigan is on hold for now, pending the outcome of the club’s appeal against a three-window fee restriction. If it gets lifted following Wednesday’s hearing, then a deal for the Westerlo forward could well be struck.
