Trust remains a key sticking point, insiders say, and Meghan is reportedly seen as the core issue.

“They just don’t trust her,” a palace source was quoted as saying, pointing to ongoing concerns about the private nature of family conversations being used in Meghan’s public-facing ventures. The source added that members of the royal household are uneasy that interactions with Meghan could become content for her podcast, cooking series, interviews, or social media presence.

Following meetings between Prince Harry’s aides and representatives for King Charles, speculation has grown around the possibility of Harry making solo visits to the UK, leaving Meghan and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, behind in the United States.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and have since lived in California. Their highly publicised exit was followed by a string of media projects that intensified the rift with the Royal Family. These include their six-part Netflix docuseries, a headline-making interview with Oprah Winfrey, and Prince Harry’s best-selling 2023 memoir ‘Spare’.

The memoir, which became the fastest-selling nonfiction book of all time, provided intimate insights into royal life and exposed Harry’s fractured relationships with his father, King Charles III, and his brother, Prince William. He also discussed the impact of his marriage to Meghan on his decision to permanently leave royal life. Since their departure, the Sussexes have returned to the UK only on rare occasions.

Recently, however, Prince Harry has publicly expressed interest in re-establishing communication with his family. In an interview with the BBC earlier this year, he said, “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight anymore; life is precious.”

Even so, some within the palace remain sceptical. Another royal insider told the Daily Express that Harry’s openness in his memoir has left a lingering sense of caution among senior royals. “The family now hesitates to confide in him,” the insider noted, citing fears that further personal revelations could surface in a potential second book.

Subscribe to our NewsletterGet Latest Mathrubhumi Updates in EnglishFollow

Disclaimer: Kindly avoid objectionable, derogatory, unlawful and lewd comments, while responding to reports.
