{"id":319666,"date":"2025-08-05T11:19:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T11:19:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/319666\/"},"modified":"2025-08-05T11:19:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T11:19:14","slug":"lennert-van-eetvelt-set-to-miss-vuelta-after-tour-de-france-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/319666\/","title":{"rendered":"Lennert Van Eetvelt set to miss Vuelta after Tour de France crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cyclinguptodate.com\/lennert-van-eetvelt\" title=\"Lennert Van Eetvelt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lennert Van Eetvelt<\/a>\u2019s season continues to unravel, as the<br \/>\n24-year-old Belgian has now been ruled out of the Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a 2025.<br \/>\nAccording to Het Nieuwsblad, the <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclinguptodate.com\/lotto\" title=\"Lotto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lotto<\/a> rider won\u2019t make the start line in a few<br \/>\nweeks\u2019 time, following a string of injuries and setbacks that have defined his<br \/>\nyear. The Vuelta had been a major target for Van Eetvelt after crashes and a<br \/>\nlack of form derailed his Tour de France campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Van Eetvelt withdrew from the Tour on stage 15, having<br \/>\nstruggled through the opening two weeks. His best result came in the stage 13<br \/>\ntime trial up to Peyragudes, where he placed just 47th. \u201cI don&#8217;t remember it<br \/>\nvery well,\u201d he told Sporza following a high-speed crash early in the Tour. \u201cI<br \/>\nwas told that my teammate Jarrad Drizners&#8217; chain came off; he hit his frame and<br \/>\npushed the rider next to him over. I tumbled over him, and that was at high<br \/>\nspeed. It happened very quickly. Six seconds before I came to a standstill, I<br \/>\nwas still riding at 80 kilometers per hour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite managing to finish the next stage, Van Eetvelt<br \/>\nadmitted the pain quickly caught up with him. \u201cThe first 10 kilometers after<br \/>\nthe crash, I felt pretty okay, but then I started to feel everything. I&#8217;m glad<br \/>\nI made it to the finish yesterday and that I&#8217;m still in the Tour.\u201d That<br \/>\noptimism faded over the next few stages, and he ultimately went home with a<br \/>\nback contusion that made it impossible to ride at full capacity.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The Vuelta was meant to be a chance at redemption for Van<br \/>\nEetvelt, but that door is now closed. Earlier in the season, he also suffered a<br \/>\nbroken foot just one week before the Tour of Flanders and didn\u2019t finish the<br \/>\nBelgian Road Race Championships in Binche.
