However, Petchey\u2019s TV commitments meant he was always unable to become Raducanu\u2019s full-time coach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">After a trial with Roig, 57, following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/topic\/wimbledon\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a>, the 22-year-old will begin work with him in Cincinnati this week after he agreed a contract until the end of 2025. The Spaniard worked alongside Nadal for 17 years.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Rafael Nadal and his coach talking on a tennis court.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/\/562becd8-3d3a-49ef-92fc-513043527f0b.jpg\" class=\"responsive-sc-1nnon4d-0 bAbKns\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Roig, left, worked alongside Nadal for many years and more recently was part of Berrettini\u2019s backroom staff<\/p>\n<p>MICHAEL REGAN\/GETTY IMAGES<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/topic\/emma-raducanu\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 csWvlP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Raducanu<\/a> has struggled to settle with a coach in recent years until her part-time work with Petchey started to pay dividends this season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">A WTA 1000 quarter-final showing at the Miami Open in March was followed by a round-of-16 run at the Italian Open before she made the last eight in the first women\u2019s tournament at Queen\u2019s Club.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Aryna Sabalenka proved too strong for Raducanu in the third round at Wimbledon, but this was backed up by a semi-final at the Citi Open as the British No1 targets a seeding at the US Open this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">TV commentator Petchey, who worked with Andy Murray at the start of the Scot\u2019s career, revealed in July that Raducanu would need to find a full-time coach soon and she has in Roig.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Emma Raducanu and her coach Mark Petchey at Wimbledon.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/\/ac8dc9cc-7671-44b0-bd64-ff4041c63e37.jpg\" class=\"responsive-sc-1nnon4d-0 bAbKns\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Petchey, left, said in July that Raducanu would need a full-time coach<\/p>\n<p>MIKE EGERTON\/PA<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Spanish coach Roig worked with Nadal alongside Nadal\u2019s uncle Toni for the majority of the 22-times grand-slam champion\u2019s career and more recently was part of Matteo Berrettini\u2019s backroom staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\">Raducanu will continue working with Petchey as well when his schedule allows but turns her focus back to securing a US Open seeding (she must be inside the world\u2019s top 32;
