Police have issued an update after a bus driver was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drugs.<\/p>\n

An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News the driver’s eyes appeared ‘glazed’ following a low-speed crash in Manchester city centre<\/a> on Saturday afternoon (August 2).<\/p>\n

The incident involved a Bee Network bus bound for Bolton<\/a>. As the bus moved from Piccadilly Gardens<\/a> to Portland Street, it reportedly clipped a taxi that was waiting to turn<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Police<\/a> confirmed a male had been arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive due to drugs, although the force said it did not have any record of a collision.<\/p>\n

Transport for Greater Manchester confirmed it was aware of the situation and was ‘working closely with GMP to support their investigations’.<\/p>\n

In an update issued today (Tuesday), GMP confirmed the driver had since been bailed. No one is thought to have been injured in the incident.<\/p>\n

The witness claimed the bus had been full, with standing room only, when the incident took place – at a time traffic was caught up behind closures due to demonstrations taking place on Saturday.<\/p>\n

They claimed that the driver’s eyes appeared to be ‘glazed’ and that they ‘got no response’ while trying to speak to him, adding that he heading into Chinatown and back to Piccadilly Gardens after clipping the taxi.<\/p>\n

“This could have been really really bad,” the eyewitness said. “The bus couldn’t have been any more full. It could have been horrendous if we had hit a building or anything like that.”<\/p>\n

A TfGM spokesperson said on Sunday: “Just after 4:30pm yesterday, we were made aware of an incident at Parker Street bus station.<\/p>\n

“GMP officers attended the scene, and we are working closely with GMP to support their investigations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to ensuring the safety of all passengers and staff, and will continue to assist the police in any way we can.<\/p>\n
