So we came up with a plan \u2013 John will push me in a wheelchair so I can still be there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">She will be accompanied by toy poodle Nico, who joined the family just two weeks before her dad died, and Natalie added: \u201cDad never got the chance to know him properly, but I\u2019m so grateful he got to meet him. Nico has been by my side through grief, hospital stays and recovery. He\u2019s part of our story now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/in-your-area\/lanarkshire\/tributes-paid-lanarkshire-journalist-martin-35658791\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tributes paid to Lanarkshire journalist Martin Clark<\/a>READ MORE: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/in-your-area\/lanarkshire\/hamilton-charity-benefit-stv-childrens-35603859\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamilton charity to benefit from STV Children&#8217;s Appeal funding<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Natalie received a donation of stem cells from John in June as part of her treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia and blast myelodysplasia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">She was diagnosed last autumn after her alert local pharmacist \u2013 who had herself previously battled leukaemia \u2013 urged Natalie to report her symptoms of a sore throat, high temperature and week-long urine infection to her GP, and within days, tests at Wishaw and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/in-your-area\/lanarkshire\/new-monklands-hospital-lanarkshire-wide-34607122\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Monklands hospitalsLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Monklands hospitals<\/a> found abnormal cells and led to a shock diagnosis of blood cancer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The 40-year-old has since undergone five rounds of chemotherapy, beginning within two weeks, and has endured multiple complications including seven cardiac arrests and a spell in intensive care, emergency bowel surgery, a stoma and numerous blood transfusions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/scots-woman-diagnosed-leukemia-after-34116578\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"John previously toldLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">John previously told<\/a> how the family are \u201ceternally grateful to the pharmacist who helped save Natalie\u2019s life\u201d, and had said of her time in intensive care: \u201cShe was placed on life support and we were told to prepare for the worst. They gave her 48 hours to see if she could survive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cSomehow Natalie pulled through. We were allowed to bring Nico into intensive care, and she briefly opened her eyes for the first time. It made me feel seen during an incredibly lonely time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The family is hoping for sunshine this year after washout weather at the event 12 months ago \u2013 but say nothing will stop them from showing up to make their way to the finish line in support of the charity and in honour of John senior, having first begun to support the Beatson to give back with gratitude for the care and compassion he had received.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Natalie added: \u201cOff the Beatson Track is such a special day. thousands of participants united by their shared connection to cancer, turning the west end of Glasgow yellow by turning out in the Beatson\u2019s <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/in-your-area\/lanarkshire\/turning-yellow-aid-beatson-cancer-23961612\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"signature colour.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">signature colour.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">More than 20,000 participants have walked over 124,000 miles to date, with finishers at the Riverside Museum able to enjoy the festival village with live entertainment and food stalls, and the event being hosted by STV\u2019s Laura Boyd and Heart Scotland\u2019s David Farrell.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Beatson community fundraising manager Maisie McCormick said: \u201cWe\u2019re so grateful to everyone who has taken part over the years
