Birmingham City<\/a> defender Dion Sanderson looks set to stay in the Championship, GIVEMESPORT sources understand.<\/p>\n

It was believed that the 25-year-old was set to make the move join League One outfit Wigan this summer, but there has been late interest from the Championship and a U-turn now looks to be on the cards.<\/p>\n

Wigan Athletic were heading the list of suitors from that division, but it appears that he may now be staying in it.<\/p>\n

The former Birmingham City skipper was on loan at Blackburn Rovers last year but made only a handful of appearances, and now looks set to leave St Andrews.<\/p>\n

His game-time was limited under John Eustace, and he returned to Birmingham where he has since been pushed out of the picture by new manager Chris Davies.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old has two years left on his existing \u00a312,000-a-week contract<\/a> with the Blues, but the club’s recruitment team is willing to sanction a loan move away. The club was seeking a fee for his permanent transfer, but with the clock ticking down towards the new campaign, they have agreed to loan the player out instead.<\/p>\n

There was considerable interest from the third tier but it appears that a late move could be on the cards for him to remain in the Championship. A move could be announced this week.<\/p>\n
