Sir Alex Ferguson has provided his thoughts ahead of Sunday’s Premier League<\/a> clash between Manchester United<\/a> and Manchester City<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Having won the reverse fixture at Etihad Stadium<\/a> earlier in the season, Ruben Amorim’s have the chance to do the double over their bitter rivals. Late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad sealed a superb turnaround but the latter is one of many United players set to miss the game through injury.<\/p>\n

Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven and Lisandro Martinez are also unavailable and while Amorim has suggested Kobbie Mainoo could return, he also revealed there is a fresh injury doubt in the squad.<\/a><\/p>\n

“I think Kobbie is returning to training, so we’ll see and assess for this game,” the United boss said. “Of course, he cannot play a full game. He’s a long time without training. Matta [Matthijs de Ligt] has an issue. He has something during the game [at Forest] and we have to assess.”<\/p>\n

As for City, Erling Haaland has been ruled out of the Manchester Derby and at least six games beyond that after suffering damage to his ankle during the win against Bournemouth. Despite enduring a mostly disastrous season, City are in the FA Cup<\/a> semi-finals again and can still qualify for next season’s Champions League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

United meanwhile, may be more focused on the Europa League<\/a> quarter-final first leg against Lyon in France that arrives next Thursday with the return leg at Old Trafford<\/a> coming four days on from a trip to Newcastle United.<\/p>\n

While both teams may be focused on other matters, winning the Manchester Derby offers huge bragging rights and thus a win could be huge. With anticipation building for the fixture, Sir Alex was asked for his score prediction while taking in the races at Aintree.<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, he did not actually say what he thinks the score will be but his three-word message was telling for United’s chances. “Anything can happen [in a derby],” he told ITV Racing.<\/p>\n

Despite no longer being in his ambassadorial role at the club, the United legend is expected to be at Old Trafford for the game with his former side looking to complete a domestic double over City for only the third time since 2010.<\/p>\n
