Colombia registered 49.1mn mobile internet accesses in the first quarter, with 5G representing 9.6% of the total.\u00a0<\/p>\n
During the period, 1.9mn 5G accesses were added, for a total of 4.7mn, according to latest figures by ICT ministry Mintic<\/a>.<\/p>\n “This [5G] increase reflects the rapid adoption of this technology by users, thanks to the expansion of infrastructure, the availability of compatible devices and the growing interest in the benefits of this network, such as higher speeds and lower latency,” Mintic said in a press release.\u00a0<\/p>\n Regulator CRC<\/a> reported 1,433 5G sites working in June, 92.2% of which operated by Am\u00e9rica M\u00f3vil<\/a>‘s Claro<\/a>, and Tigo<\/a> and Movistar<\/a>‘s joint network accounting for the balance.<\/p>\n The 5G rollout began in February 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n The ministry also reported 40.7mn 4G connections in operation and 3.5mn 3G accesses.\u00a0<\/p>\n Claro reported 27.8mn clients and quarterly mobile revenues of 1.72tn pesos, Tigo 8.6mn and 522bn pesos, Movistar 8.5mn and 398bn pesos, and WOM<\/a> 3.1mn and 158bn pesos.\u00a0<\/p>\n Fixed internet<\/strong><\/p>\n The number of fixed internet accesses rose by 235,000 over 1Q24, reaching 9.34mn.\u00a0<\/p>\n Average download speed was 236Mbps, an increase of over 10Mbps.<\/p>\n Mintic reported that 4.9mn accesses were via fiber, up 7% quarter-on-quarter, 4mn via cable, down 1.1%, and 100,000 via xDSL, down 26.6%. Other technologies, including satellite, accounted for 300,000 accesses.\u00a0<\/p>\n Claro handled 3.28mn fixed internet accesses in the quarter, UNE EPM<\/a> 1.70mn, Movistar 1.58mn and ETB<\/a> 570,000.
