If the latest planning application is approved, building work is expected to start soon. The new homes would be built in stages over next 15 years.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_bbcldrs_0_20241104_145445_1147_1.jpg\" alt=\"CGI of how the new Godley Green development in Tameside could look\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>CGI of how the new Godley Green development in Tameside could look(Image: Tameside Council)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The council said that over the last few months, site investigation work has been undertaken as part of the ongoing enhancement of plans for the development \u2013 one of the largest in Greater Manchester.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The site to the south of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/hyde-and-longdendale\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Hyde<\/a> is largely made up of green space, which is no longer classed as green belt land following the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/greater-manchester-spatial-framework\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Places for Everyone planLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Places for Everyone plan<\/a> being approved by nine Greater Manchester councils last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Godley Green scheme has been a controversial topic for years, with residents <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/news\/greater-manchester-news\/is-green-belt-precious-cash-28026903\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"fearing the loss of green space would ruin the areaLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">fearing the loss of green space would ruin the area<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A GoFundMe page was set up last year by campaigners to challenge the development with a judicial review.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1_Hands-off-Greenbelt.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Campaigners against the Godley Green garden village outside Guardsman Tony Downes House in Droylsden.(Image: LDRS)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">According to the joint developers, the plans will protect surrounding areas from overdevelopment and aim to boost Hyde town centre. A promise has also been made on mixed-tenure homes, including affordable housing, catering to everyone from first-time buyers to older residents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Coun Eleanor Wills, leader of Tameside Council said: \u201cGodley Green Garden Village represents a bold and forward-thinking vision for Tameside.
