{"id":323650,"date":"2025-08-06T22:39:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T22:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/323650\/"},"modified":"2025-08-06T22:39:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T22:39:15","slug":"warwickshire-farmer-installs-solar-panels-on-part-of-land","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/323650\/","title":{"rendered":"Warwickshire farmer installs solar panels on part of land"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shehnaz Khan<\/p>\n<p>BBC News, West Midlands<\/p>\n<p>Listen: The chicken and solar farm powering 16,000 homes<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">A Warwickshire farmer who has had part of his land turned into a solar farm said the extra income generated from the site helps him sleep at night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Rob Hadley, from Chesterton Fields Farm, near Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, said about 20% of his farm had been put down to renewables on a &#8220;long-term lease&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The 53 megawatts (MW) site, is supplying renewable energy direct to the grid, with enough power for up to 16,000 homes, he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Mr Hadley said it was not his preferred way of farming but income from the panels provided the farm with &#8220;security&#8221; and &#8220;consistency for the future&#8221; amid fluctuations in commodity and supply prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;We get a small profit share out of the efficiency of the site as well, so it&#8217;s a steady regular income stream now,&#8221; he explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;The consistency of the income, it helps you sleep at night.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753966091_383_grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dkIvM hide-when-no-script\" aria-label=\"image unavailable\"\/><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/5d61d260-71fa-11f0-88cf-791e5d4bcee3.jpg.webp.webp\" loading=\"eager\" alt=\"Rows of solar panels at a farm in a field at a farm. The entrance to the field is dry mud with tyre tracks in it.\" class=\"sc-d1200759-0 dvfjxj\"\/><\/p>\n<p>About 20% of the farm was being used for renewables, Mr Hadley said<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Mr Hadley said the site had taken about four years due to &#8220;long&#8221; planning processes but would be in place on his land for the next three decades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;Pursuing the solar, it&#8217;s something we&#8217;ve never embarked on and never done before,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;It&#8217;s a diversification for 30 years and then it will revert back to agriculture.
