A Knight\u2019s Tale made its debut on Friday April 11 and is based on the cult 2001 hit movie of the same name, starring Heath Ledger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Irish comedy writer and actor <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/whats-on\/theatre-news\/world-premiere-musical-knights-tale-31393918\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Brona C Titley has adapted the film for the stage <\/a>and it\u2019s been directed by the award-winning Rachel Kavanaugh and choreographed by Olivier Award-winning Matt Cole.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The jukebox musical features well-known hits, including Queen&#8217;s We Will Rock You and follows the mediaeval adventures of the peasant squire Will Thatcher.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It\u2019s already received rave reviews from fans calling it \u201ca fantastic show\u201d and \u201camazing\u201d, with one Reddit user saying it \u201cdefinitely deserves a run in the West End\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_DBR_MEN_070425Knight_13.jpg\" alt=\"The cast in rehearsal \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The cast in rehearsal (Image: A Knight&#8217;s Tale)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But there has been uncertainty over whether the musical is suitable for children and parents have questioned what age it is appropriate for.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A warning message is displayed on the website when you go to book tickets, which users have to acknowledge to continue with the purchase. It currently states: \u201cImportant information. Please be advised that A Knight\u2019s Tale contains explicit language and some nudity. Children under 4 will not be admitted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One audience member commented on Facebook: \u201cDon\u2019t get it! Thought it was aimed at kids at first (as there were kids in the audience), but some of the language was inappropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Another asked: \u201cWould this be suitable for a six year old? I know under 4s won\u2019t be admitted\u2026just wondering if it\u2019s suitable as there\u2019s nudity and swearing!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Someone also asked if it would be suitable for a child aged six or eight in a thread in the Reddit group TheWestEnd. Reddit user Temporary_Eye_9758 replied: \u201cI don\u2019t have kids myself but I think they\u2019d probably be too young. It can be quite rude in parts and has some nudity in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_DBR_MEN_070425Knight_03.jpg\" alt=\"The cast in rehearsal \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The cast in rehearsal (Image: A Knight&#8217;s Tale)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Manchester Evening News has contacted the Opera House for a comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">While there is confusion on whether the show is suitable for kids, what is certain is how popular A Knight\u2019s Tale has been only one week into its run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Posting a thread in the Reddit TheWestEnd group, Temporary_Eye_9758 said: \u201cI know it\u2019s not technically the West End but I think I read it\u2019s going there. I saw it this evening and I went in completely not knowing anything about it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWow this show exceeded expectations. The show is funny, production is incredible and the cast are great. I know jukebox musicals get hate but there\u2019s a real mix of songs. Yeah they\u2019re a bit randomly placed in parts but everything else makes up for it. I sat there with a smile on my face for most the show!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Reddit user Oklce7032 wrote: \u201cI went the opening night, and was happily surprised at how good it was. They kept the fun, slightly camp feel of the original film. Lots of memorable film quotes, but done in a jukebox musical style.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cDefinitely deserves a run in the West End. I&#8217;m hoping it will develop a cult following like Heathers did. Deserves to do well. I&#8217;m definitely going back again and taking my daughters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One Facebook user said: \u201cThe best show I\u2019ve seen in a long time, worth going to see it before it moves to London.\u201d Another added: \u201cCongratulations on a fantastic opening night to all cast and crew!! My hat goes off to the props team and the ensemble who have energy to hit that choreo like I\u2019ve never seen.
