People had to be evacuated after a fire broke out in a pub basement. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service <\/a>were called to the Queens Hotel on Park Road East, Birkenhead<\/a> shortly before 8pm today, Wednesday, August 6.<\/p>\n Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the basement of the three-storey building<\/a>, which is also home to a hotel, measuring around 60 metres by 40 metres. Four firefighters extinguished the blaze while the commercial premises above was evacuated.<\/p>\n Following further inspection, the fire was found to have started in the electrical fuse board<\/a> and was extinguished shortly after. A cordon was put in place outside the pub while fire crews dealt with the incident.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for Mersey Fire and Rescue Service said: “Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) are in attendance at an incident on Park Road East, Birkenhead on the evening of Wednesday 6th August.<\/p>\n “Crews were alerted at 19.56 and on scene at 19.58 with four fire engines attending.<\/p>\n “This was in response to a suspected basement fire within a three storey commercial premises, approximately 60 metres by 40 metres.<\/p>\n “On arrival four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus (BA) were committed with one hose reel jet to search the basement area of the property.<\/p>\n “The commercial premises above was evacuated.<\/p>\n “Crews located the fire in the electrical fuse board, extinguishing shortly after before ventilating the affected area of any smoke logging.<\/p>\n “At 20.43, it was determined that this incident would be scaled down to three fire engines at scene.”<\/p>\n For the latest news and breaking news visit liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news<\/a> Get all the big headlines, pictures, analysis, opinion and video on the stories that matter to you by signing up to our daily and breaking newsletter<\/a>.
