{"id":324002,"date":"2025-08-07T01:49:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T01:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/324002\/"},"modified":"2025-08-07T01:49:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T01:49:12","slug":"india-u-s-chip-tariffs-toyota-earnings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/324002\/","title":{"rendered":"India-U.S., chip tariffs, Toyota earnings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Asia-Pacific markets start the day mixed<\/p>\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets opened mixed Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>As of 8.06 a.m. Singapore time (8.08 p.m. ET Wednesday), Japan&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nikkei 225<\/a> benchmark was flat while the broader Topix index ticked up 0.19%.<\/p>\n<p>In South Korea, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kospi<\/a>\u00a0index fell 0.12% while the small-cap Kosdaq was unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>Over in Australia, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> benchmark was flat.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Amala Balakrishner<\/p>\n<p>U.S. equity futures ticked up in early Asia hoursHere are the opening calls for the day <\/p>\n<p>Good morning from Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>Investors will be keeping a close watch on chip stocks following U.S. President Donald Trump&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/08\/06\/trump-tariffs-chips-companies.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vow to impose 100% tariffs on imported semiconductors and chips<\/a>, unless they are made by companies &#8220;building in the United States.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s benchmark\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nikkei 225<\/a>\u00a0was set to open lower<strong>, <\/strong>with the futures contract in Chicago at 40,785 while its counterpart in Osaka last traded at 40,790, against the index&#8217;s last close of 40,794.86.<\/p>\n<p>Futures for Hong Kong&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hang Seng index<\/a>\u00a0stood at 24,903, pointing to a weaker open compared with the HSI&#8217;s Wednesday close of 24,910.63.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a>\u00a0was set to start the day lower with futures tied to the benchmark at 8,779, compared with its last close of 8,843.70.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Amala Balakrishner<\/p>\n<p>Trump calls for 100% tariff on semiconductors and chips<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump said late Wednesday that he would slap <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/08\/06\/trump-tariffs-chips-companies.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a 100% duty on imports of semiconductors and chips<\/a> \u2013 with an exception for companies that are &#8220;building in the United States.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re going to be putting a very large tariff on chips and semiconductors,&#8221; he said, speaking in the Oval Office on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But the good news for companies like Apple is if you&#8217;re building in the United States or have committed to build, without question, committed to build in the United States, there will be no charge,&#8221; Trump added.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple<\/a> advanced 3% in extended trading, fresh off a 5% gain in the regular session.<\/p>\n<p>Stock Chart IconStock chart icon<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static-redesign.cnbcfm.com\/dist\/a54b41835a8b60db28c2.svg\" class=\"Collapsible-dismissButton\" alt=\"hide content\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Apple shares in the past day<\/p>\n<p>\u2013Kevin Breuninger, Darla Mercado<\/p>\n<p>U.S. stock futures open little changed Wednesday eveningStocks close higher Wednesday<\/p>\n<p>All the three major averages finished with gains on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The S&amp;P 500 advanced 0.73% to finish at 6,345.06, while the Nasdaq Composite jumped 1.21%, closing at 21,169.42.
