{"id":324301,"date":"2025-08-07T04:32:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T04:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/324301\/"},"modified":"2025-08-07T04:32:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T04:32:12","slug":"arundhati-roy-to-noorani-jk-home-dept-bans-publication-of-25-books-on-kashmir-propagating-secessionism-india-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/324301\/","title":{"rendered":"Arundhati Roy to Noorani, J&#038;K Home Dept bans publication of 25 books on Kashmir: \u2018Propagating secessionism\u2019 | India News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Jammu &amp; Kashmir Home Department has banned the publication of 25 books on Kashmir, including by authors such as Arundhati Roy and A G Noorani, saying they propagate \u201csecessionism\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A notification issued by the Principal Secretary of the Home Department, Chandraker Bharti, by order of Lieutenant-Governor <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/explained\/hard-taskmaster-with-a-congenial-style-meet-manoj-sinha-the-new-l-g-of-jk-6542375\/\" target=\"_blank\">Manoj Sinha<\/a>, said: \u201c\u2026it has come to the notice of the Government, that certain literature propagates false narrative and secessionism in <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/section\/cities\/jammu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jammu<\/a> and Kashmir\u2026 This literature would deeply impact the psyche of youth by promoting (a) culture of grievance, victimhood and terrorist heroism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyloading\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/track_1x1.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/track_1x1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1px\" height=\"1px\" style=\"display:none;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the means by which this literature has contributed to the radicalization of youth in J&amp;K include distortion of historical facts, glorification of terrorists, vilification of security forces, religious radicalization, promotion of alienation, pathway to violence and terrorism etc,\u201d said the notification.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>It identified 25 books \u201cfound to excite secessionism and endangering sovereignty and integrity of India, thereby, attracting the provisions of Sections 152, 196 &amp; 197 of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The books include political commentaries and historical accounts such as The Kashmir Dispute 1947-2012 by noted constitutional expert Noorani, Kashmir at the Crossroads and Contested Lands by Sumantra Bose, In Search of a Future: The Kashmir Story by David Devadas, Roy\u2019s Azadi and A Dismantled State: The Untold Story of Kashmir After Article 370 by journalist Anuradha Bhasin.<\/p>\n<p>According to the notification, the government has declared that publication of these books and their copies or other documents \u201cneed to be declared as \u2018forfeited\u2019 in terms of Section 98 of Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The international books that were banned include Kashmiri-American author Hafsa Kanjwal\u2019s Colonizing Kashmir: State-building Under Indian occupation, Haley Duschinski\u2019s Resisting Occupation in Kashmir, Victoria Schofield\u2019s Kashmir in Conflict and Christopher Snedden\u2019s Independent Kashmir.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Seema Kazi\u2019s Between Democracy &amp; Nation: Gender and Militarisation in Kashmir, Essar Batool\u2019s Do you Remember Kunan Poshpora? and Ather Zia\u2019s Resisting Disappearance: Military Occupation and Women\u2019s Activism in Kashmir have been banned.<\/p>\n<p>The publication of Jamaat-e-Islami founder Moulana Abul A\u2019la Maududi Maududi\u2019s Al Jihad fil Islam and Muslim Brotherhood founder Hasan al-Banna\u2019s Mujahid ki Azan are among the banned books.<\/p>\n<p>The other banned books include Law and Conflict Resolution in Kashmir by Piotr Balcerowicz and Agnieszka Kuszewska, USA and Kashmir by Dr Shamshad Shan and Tariki-i-Siyasat Kashmir by Dr Afaq.
