BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, LARGELY FROM COUNTRIES THAT HAVE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF THE UNITED STATES FOR MANY YEARS, LAUGHING ALL THE WAY, WILL START FLOWING INTO THE USA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTHE ONLY THING THAT CAN STOP AMERICA&#8217;S GREATNESS WOULD BE A RADICAL LEFT COURT THAT WANTS TO SEE OUR COUNTRY FAIL!\u201d he added, taking a jab at opponents.<\/p>\n<p>In another post, once it was past midnight in the US, <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/economy\/trump-tariff-news-live-updates-us-president-donald-trump-announces-50-percent-tariff-on-india-pm-modi-russian-oil-trade-11754493748768.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Donald Trump\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> added, \u201cIT\u2019S MIDNIGHT!!! BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN TARIFFS ARE NOW FLOWING INTO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After months of chaos, tariffs jump for all, friends and \u2018foes\u2019<\/p>\n<p>After months of chaotic threats and reversals, <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/market\/stock-market-news\/trumps-tariffs-on-india-experts-unveil-this-strategy-for-indian-stock-market-investors-11754536622452.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"tariffs\" rel=\"noopener\">tariffs<\/a> have risen for almost all US trading partners, regardless of them being allies or not, one Bloomberg report noted.<\/p>\n<p>This pushes average US tariff rate to 15.2 per cent, Bloomberg Economics estimates \u2014 much above the 2.3 per cent imposed just last year (2024), and the highest since World War II, it added.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, US allies such as the European Union, <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/auto-news\/bainbacked-japanese-firm-proterial-looks-to-india-for-rare-earth-magnet-manufacturing-ather-11754396614967.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Japan\" rel=\"noopener\">Japan<\/a> and South Korea have all accepted 15 per cent duties on their products, including 25 per cent on auto exports; while other countries were simply assigned rates, ranging from 10 per cent to much higher.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the last adjustments made were with the Swiss president, who left unsuccessful in reducing the 39 per cent duties; while Donald Trump on August 6 \u2014 just the day ahead \u2014 doubled India&#8217;s tariffs from 25 per cent to 50 per cent as \u201cpunishment\u201d for trading with <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/trump-threatens-secondary-sanctions-after-slapping-additional-50-per-cent-tariff-on-india-buying-russian-oil-11754524912454.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Russia\" rel=\"noopener\">Russia<\/a>. Donald Trump claims golden era, experts say\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Both supporters and detractors agree on one aspect: Donald Trump&#8217;s tariff regime will cause a seismic shift for the <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/us-news\/way-better-than-expected-must-now-lower-rate-trump-as-us-economy-rebounds-with-3-gdp-growth-in-q2-11753887173938.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"US economy\" rel=\"noopener\">US economy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Donald Trump himself claims that imposing tariffs would expand US manufacturing, increase <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/companies\/people\/will-ai-take-my-job-harsh-goenka-says-artificial-intelligence-will-create-these-jobs-new-winners-will-be-11754412032332.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"jobs\" rel=\"noopener\">jobs<\/a> and in effect make the US the \u201cgreatest\u201d in line with his \u2018Make America Great Again\u2019 campaign; experts warn of inflation and that it will be domestic consumers and firms that will end up bridging the pricing differences.<\/p>\n<p>Wendy Cutler, vice president of the Asia Society Policy Institute and a former US trade negotiator told Bloomberg that the signs are hinting to \u201ctougher times\u201d ahead. \u201cA lot of companies have been building up inventories before the tariffs went into place. It is almost inevitable that prices increase because businesses are unlikely to sustain lower margins over the long term,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Brad Jensen, a professor at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, said growing <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/economy\/trump-us-tariff-50-percent-india-what-gets-expensive-leather-textile-jewellery-shrimp-gems-hit-hard-who-will-pay-economy-11754533579431.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"tariff\" rel=\"noopener\">tariff<\/a> revenues and jobs simultaneously is hard. \u201cBoth cannot be true.
