A notice of forfeiture has been placed on the front door of a Liverpool city centre<\/a> pub. The Liffey pub, part of the Grand Central building on Renshaw Street, has been a firm fixture on the city’s nightlife<\/a> scene for years.<\/p>\n

The venue<\/a> had closed at the end of March 2022 after a rent dispute involving a former tenant. However, with new owners and a \u00a3200,000 refurbishment, the pub reopened on March 17, 2023<\/a>. Pictures taken today (August 6) by the ECHO<\/a> show a notice of forfeiture on the front door.<\/p>\n

Nextdom served official notice of forfeiture of the lease to venue operator Crosbie Bar Ltd, which was effective from July 14, 2025.<\/p>\n

The notice reads: “Pursuant to the terms of the lease dated 18th October 2023 and common law the landlord has peacefully re-entered the premises and forfeited the lease.”<\/p>\n

Despite stating it is open on Google, the number listed for The Liffey did not connect when the ECHO<\/a> attempted to ring. The pub has not posted on its Facebook<\/a> page since June 27, 2025.<\/p>\n

The ECHO<\/a> has attempted to contact The Liffey and Nextdom for further information.<\/p>\n

The Liffey has been described as a “authentic Irish bar” by visitors and has a 4.5 review on Tripadvisor. Its latest review on the site reads: “The Liffey on Renshaw street is a fantastic Irish pub that serves in my opinion the best Guinness in the city centre.<\/p>\n

“This is a brilliant Irish pub that has an Irish themed look and feel with many interesting features relating to Ireland and is a joy to visit.<\/p>\n

\"TheThe Liffey on Renshaw Street has been a fixture in Liverpool’s drinking scene for years<\/p>\n

“A great place to watch live sport as there’s many TV screens throughout this fantastic Irish pub. They offer well priced drinks and it’s a pub packed with locals.<\/p>\n

“We went here early on in the afternoon and to be honest it wasn’t that busy but it was early and this place may have just opened.<\/p>\n

“When we visited here we had a few glasses of Guinness which where as always superb and were really well priced.<\/p>\n
