Welcome to Day 2 of the Men\u2019s Softball competition at\u00a0The World\u00a0Games 2025\u00a0Men’s Softball<\/a> in Chengdu, China. Chengdu woke up to rain this Thursday, causing a delay to the first two games of the day. After a three-and-a-half-hour rain delay, Day 2 of The World Games Men’s Softball competition is finally underway. Canada defeated Australia, 11-2, in five innings. Japan came from behind to beat Venezuela 10-3. USA defeated Singapore 15-2, in five innings.<\/p>\n

Canada 11 – 2 Australia –\u00a0Play by play and Boxscore<\/a><\/p>\n

In a clash of World Champions, Canada defeated Australia 11-2 in five innings to secure their first win of the tournament. Brad Ezekiel led the Canadian offense with six RBIs, highlighted by a grand slam in the top of the fifth.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Looking to rebound from yesterday\u2019s tough loss to Singapore, Australia struck first in the opening inning thanks to third baseman Riley James. With two outs and a runner on third, James drilled a 2-2 pitch from Canadian starter Ty Sebastian into center field, driving in the game\u2019s first run and giving the Aussies an early 1-0 lead.<\/p>\n

Canada responded immediately with a big inning in the top of the second. A defensive error, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, setting the stage for three consecutive run-scoring hits by Nick White, Brad Ezekiel, and Ty Sebastian. The outburst prompted head coach Mike Titheradge to remove starter Jeremy Garland from the game. However, reliever Ashlee Goffer couldn\u2019t stop the bleeding, surrendering back-to-back RBI singles to Blake Hunter and Jordan Pomeroy to extend the lead to 6-1.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Canada extended their lead in the fourth as Blake Hunter singled to drive in Brad Ezekiel \u2014 who came back one inning later with a mammoth grand slam to make it 11-1. Australia pulled one back in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single by Haydan Dober.<\/p>\n

The winning pitcher was Ty Sebastian, who tossed four innings, surrendering four hits and two runs. He struck out four. Jeremy Garland was the losing pitcher for Australia<\/p>\n

Venezuela 3 – 10 Japan –\u00a0Play by play and Boxscore<\/a><\/p>\n

The top two teams in the WBSC Men’s Softball World Ranking<\/a> face each other in Chengdu. No. 2 Venezuela aims to extend their momentum following yesterday\u2019s dramatic walk-off victory against Argentina, while No. 1 Japan makes its tournament debut after their opening game was postponed.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Venezuela took a 2\u20130 lead in the top of the third. With a runner on first and one out\u2014\u00c1ngel Adames having reached on a defensive error\u2014Jos\u00e9 Dorantes launched a 2-1 pitch from Hiroki Ikeda over the center-field fence, giving the South Americans the edge.<\/p>\n

Both teams exchanged runs in the fourth. A two-out single by Angel Adames drove in Venezuela’s third run of the game. From that point, Japan scored 10 unanswered runs to get a six-inning win, ignited by Koki Sato’s homer in the bottom of the fourth to put the game 3-1.<\/p>\n

One inning later, Japan exploded with seven runs on five hits, with two RBIs from Kazuya Toriyama and Taiyo Kataoka, and one from Yusuke Morita, Kaito Masaki and Seii Kuroiwa.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Japan walked off Venezuela in the bottom of the sixth, with a lead-off triple from Tei Hamamoto, and back to back RBI doubles from Sato and Masaki.<\/p>\n

USA 15 – 2 Singapore –\u00a0Play by play and Boxscore<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

A pair of homers from Jonathan Lynch and Blaine Milheim in the first two innings ignited a 13-hit offensive for USA, leading to a five-inning 15-2 win against Singapore.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Lynch (3-for-4 with four RBIs and a homer,) Erick Ochoa (3-for-3) and Milheim (3-for-5) were responsible for nine of USA’s 13 hits.<\/p>\n

Lefty Brad Kilpatrick started for USA and pitched three innings, giving up five hits and two runs. He was credited with the win. Youngster Cody Gibbons Pitched two perfect innings, striking out five of the six batters he faced.\u00a0<\/p>\n
