\n Alright Sunshine\u00a0is a single-character monologue that examines women’s safety and law enforcement prejudices.\n<\/p>\n
\n Former Preston Lodge High School pupil\u00a0Mr Gordon is the show’s co-creative director with fellow Wonder Fools founder Jack Nurse.\n<\/p>\n
\n The play is written by Isla Cowan and is running until August 24 at 4.20pm at the Pleasance Dome, excluding August\u00a011\u00a0and 18, and is set in Edinburgh\u2019s Old Town.\n<\/p>\n
\n It is a “female-led and female-focused political play” that delves into the safety of women in both public and private spaces.\n<\/p>\n
\n Playwright Isla said: “Alright Sunshine is about the rules and rhythms of a city and what happens when the sun comes out.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It explores issues of gender and class, mob mentality, women\u2019s safety\u00a0and the politics of public space.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It\u2019s a female-led and female-focused political play, with a distinctive Edinburgh spin.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The plot centres on PC Nicky McCreadie, who is called to a mass brawl in The Meadows on a hot day in May.\n<\/p>\n
\n As the event and her past unfold, her necessary fa\u00e7ade of masculine confidence starts to crumble.\n<\/p>\n
\n Audiences are given a peek into her hidden fears and personal motivations.\n<\/p>\n
\n The play uses humour and social commentary to tackle subjects of power, retribution, misogyny\u00a0and bias within the police force.\n<\/p>\n
