Romano shares Liverpool transfer update which could be very bad news for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal

Whilst Arsenal are enjoying a successful summer on the transfer front, Liverpool might be about to cause their Premier League rivals a big headache.

Right now, Liverpool are pushing to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United – a move that’s perhaps delayed because Eddie Howe’s troubles finding a replacement.

Whilst Liverpool might be confident of securing a deal for Isak, there’s no guarantee that the Swede will be leaving St James’ Park before the end of August.

And perhaps with that in mind, Liverpool are interested in Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola.

A deal to bring the young French winger to Anfield might be tricky, but Liverpool could turn to the 22-year-old to strengthen their attack if they are unable to land Isak.

PSG could end up signing Arsenal target Rodrygo if Liverpool go for Bradley Barcola

That being said, journalist Fabrizio Romano has in turn explained how Liverpool’s interest in Barcola might ultimately be bad news for Arsenal.

TBR Football has shared throughout the summer that Arsenal would love to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid.

Paul Scholes shares one major doubt he has about Viktor Gyokeres’ move to Arsenal

As things stand, the Gunners are waiting to see how Rodrygo’s future unfolds in Spain.

But if Liverpool do end up going for Barcola instead of Isak, which Romano stressed was a long way from happening just yet, PSG could then make a big move to sign Rodrygo themselves.

Romano explained: “At the moment, to be clear, Isak remains the priority target for Liverpool – Liverpool want to go for Isak.

“If they can’t get Isak, and they decide for Barcola – very far [out] scenario, but in that case, a name to watch for Paris Saint-Germain could be Rodrygo from Real Madrid.

“But again it’s a very far scenario at the moment, because Rodrygo is very happy to stay at Real Madrid, [he] wants to compete for his place at Real Madrid.

“So Rodrygo’s focus is totally on Real Madrid, but internally at PSG, if Barcola decides to go, if Liverpool decides to come to the table at some point, Rodrygo could be an option.

“But again, at the moment that is not something that’s concrete.”

Eberechi Eze might be the most realistic option for Arsenal’s left wing spot

As things stand, it seems as if Arsenal will try to sign either Eberechi Eze or Rodrygo before the end of the window, depending on who becomes available.

Arsenal want to sign a left winger who can add to Mikel Arteta’s plans of being more direct when his team are on the attack.

However, if Liverpool end up going for Barcola and PSG sign Rodrygo, that would be a bitter blow for Arsenal.

Perhaps pushing to sign Eze would then be the move – and the Englishman certainly wouldn’t be a downgrade, but it does seem as if Andrea Berta would love to land Rodrygo.

A fascinating situation to keep an eye on, and Arsenal might find themselves in the bizarre scenario in which they end up hoping that Isak joins Liverpool, just to avoid this particular transfer merry-go-round.

Whilst Arsenal are enjoying a successful summer on the
