{"id":325868,"date":"2025-08-07T18:33:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T18:33:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/325868\/"},"modified":"2025-08-07T18:33:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T18:33:17","slug":"putin-plays-down-idea-of-meeting-zelenskyy-saying-certain-conditions-must-be-met-world-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/325868\/","title":{"rendered":"Putin plays down idea of meeting Zelenskyy, saying &#8216;certain conditions&#8217; must be met | World News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vladimir Putin has played down the possibility of talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying that while it is possible, certain conditions must be met.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian president was responding to an American proposal of a trilateral meeting between him, the Ukrainian president and Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The idea was floated by Steve Witkoff, the US president&#8217;s envoy, during talks with Mr Putin on Wednesday, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/ukraine-war-latest-moscow-putin-trump-zelenskyy-russia-witkoff-missiles-talks-ceasefire-12541713\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>War in Ukraine: Latest updates<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mr Ushakov said the three-way option was &#8220;simply mentioned by the American representative during the meeting in the Kremlin&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He added, however: &#8220;This option was not specifically discussed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On the prospect of meeting Mr Zelenskyy, Vladimir Putin said: &#8220;I have already said many times that I have nothing against it in general &#8211; it is possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, he distanced himself from any such meeting happening soon, adding: &#8220;But certain conditions must be created for this. an invitation the Russian leader declined.<\/p>\n<p>While a trilateral meeting appears to be off the agenda, Mr Ushakov said an agreement had been reached for Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to meet &#8220;in the coming days&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/donald-trump-5711\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>the US president<\/strong><\/a> touted a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/trump-could-meet-putin-as-early-as-next-week-to-discuss-ukraine-ceasefire-white-house-official-13407912\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>&#8220;very good prospect&#8221;<\/strong><\/a> of the leaders meeting for Ukraine ceasefire talks, Mr Ushakov said on Thursday that Russian and American officials had started working on the details.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At the suggestion of the American side, an agreement was essentially reached to hold a bilateral meeting at the highest level in the coming days,&#8221;
