Dejphon Chansiri has been told he is asking for too much money after the latest update on Sheffield Wednesday\u2019s sad situation.<\/strong><\/p>\n Wednesday are in a state of complete disarray<\/a> under the ownership of Chansiri, with fans calling on the Thai businessman to sell the club.<\/p>\n Players and staff at the Sheffield-based club have seen their wages delayed for the past three months, and boycotted a pre-season friendly against Burnley<\/a> as a result.<\/p>\n Despite the ongoing situation, the squad have agreed to play in Wednesday\u2019s opening game of the EFL Championship season on Sunday (10 August) against Leicester City<\/a>.<\/p>\n Aston Villa\u2019s former chief Keith Wyness\u2013 who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs \u2013 believes Chansiri<\/a> is asking for too much money to sell his stake in the Owls.<\/p>\n This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.<\/p>\n Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider<\/strong>\u2019s Inside Track podcast<\/a>, Wyness insisted that a big reason behind the chaos is the fact that Chansiri has put a lot of his own money into the club, and wants to get some of that back upon selling it.<\/p>\n MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES<\/p>\n Between when the Thai owner bought Wednesday<\/a> back in 2015, and 2024, the club lost a staggering \u00a3178million.<\/p>\n Wyness added that it is very disappointing and a sad situation.<\/p>\n He told Football Insider<\/strong>\u2018s Inside Track podcast: \u201cIt\u2019s disappointing, isn\u2019t it? I mean, we\u2019ve all followed the sad situation. The players apparently have just come out saying that they will play in the opening game, although they\u2019ve refused to play in friendlies. <\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s difficult. It\u2019s also where there may have to be a rule change for the EFL, that if players are not paid by a certain number of weeks, then the club has to undergo an auction process run by the EFL if an owner can\u2019t do it. <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been through this with Villa where we had an owner who promised the world, and from the February right through to the May, not one penny had arrived in terms of funding and we were stuck in a very difficult situation.<\/p>\n \u201cApparently he wants over \u00a3100m for his shares. I know he\u2019s put money into the club. But I think he probably wants to get too much of the money he\u2019s already put in back.<\/p>\n \u201cThat is always the problem with owners who fail. They feel that they\u2019ve put in a huge amount of their own personal wealth and don\u2019t want to lose it all.
