There\u2019s something\u00a0incredibly cathartic about\u00a0watching the world rush past as you listen to sombre music in your headphones and pretend you\u2019re the main character in a romcom. Sad news then, because the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/uk\/news\/the-uks-longest-direct-train-route-is-being-cancelled-020625\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UK\u2019s longest direct train route<\/a> \u2013 running all the way from Penzance, AKA Land\u2019s End, in Cornwall, to Aberdeen on Scotland \u2013 has been cancelled. That\u2019s a solid 14 hours of train, axed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>From May 2025, Cross Country will stop operating the\u00a0774-mile-long journey after 100 years of service. So what will be the UK\u2019s longest direct train once this stops running?<\/p>\n<p>Taking the reigns for the longest railway ride once\u00a0we wave goodbye to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/penzance\/things-to-do\/best-things-to-do-in-penzance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Penzance<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/aberdeen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aberdeen<\/a> line will be the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/scottish-highlands\/things-to-do\/perfect-weekend-in-north-east-highlands\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Caledonian Sleeper<\/a>, an overnight train that runs from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/news\/euston-closures-major-london-train-station-will-shut-over-the-easter-bank-holiday-weekend-041425\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London Euston<\/a> to Fort William in Scotland. Taking approximately 12 hours and 10 minutes, the sleeper train traverses 500 miles and has only seven stops.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Typically, travellers board the train in central London at around 9.15pm, before whizzing through the British countryside and into Scotland, where they arrive in time for a full Scottish breakfast. The train also passes through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/edinburgh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Edinburgh<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/glasgow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glasgow<\/a>, Aberdeen and Inverness.\u00a0The\u00a0different tickets\u00a0range from a standard seated coach to a double en-suite.
