Harmony Works Trust have secured an additional \u00a31m grant, meaning its competition is just a stone\u2019s throw away.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Back in 2017 Harmony Works Trust \u2013 a music charity based in Sheffield \u2013 proposed plans to redevelop a former nightclub into a new music hub. The project is set to take over Canada House, which was originally built in 1874.<\/p>\n

The charity confirmed they purchased the building for \u00a31.6m in May last year and have since partnered with a number of organisations to fund their development. The latest instalment has come from the Garfield Weston Foundation who have donated a grant worth \u00a31m.<\/p>\n

\u2018We are absolutely thrilled and deeply grateful to the Garfield Western Foundation for their extraordinary belief in our vision,\u2019 Emily Pieters, project director at Harmony Works, said. \u2018Their pledge is a powerful reflection of their confidence in what we\u2019re trying to achieve.<\/p>\n

\u2018With this, we\u2019re closer than ever to creating a permanent home for inspirational music education in the heart of Sheffield. But we\u2019re not quite there yet. We still need to raise over \u00a31m to facilitate the transformation of Canda House and unlock the full potential of this iconic building. If you believe in music, heritage and young people \u2013 now\u2019s the time to get involved.\u2019<\/p>\n

Other funders of the scheme include The National Lottery Heritage Fund who have provided \u00a34.7m and Arts Council England who have given \u00a33.5m.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s more, Sheffield City Council, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and the government\u2019s levelling up fund have also contributed.<\/p>\n

Sophie Weston, deputy chair of the Garfield Weston Foundation, added: \u2018We believe in supporting a diverse range of charities across the UK. From local community initiatives to large national projects, the common thread is that all our grantees make a real positive difference, improving lives and strengthening communities throughout the country.<\/p>\n
