Every year, Birmingham Weekender<\/strong> is full of surprises. From interactive installations to pop-up performances, the team-up between Birmingham Hippodrome and the Bullring always provides incredible entertainment for all ages to enjoy\u2014and this year is no different.<\/p>\n

Birmingham Weekender returns with a vibrant programme of free events this August Bank Holiday<\/strong> (August 23 to 25). Weekender Carnival kicks off the festival <\/strong>with a dance and music extravaganza, while celebrations continue across the weekend with Poss\u00ea, an interactive procession<\/strong> blending percussion, dance, theatre, and song.<\/p>\n

Throughout the long weekend, you can also catch everything from the next generation of local talent with Hippodrome Young Dancers Showcase<\/strong> to live opera with Birmingham Opera<\/strong>. Families should particularly check out Artizani\u2019s Hydropunk, an interactive water-themed installation<\/strong> mixing environmentalism with fun.<\/p>\n

What else is happening at Birmingham Weekender?<\/b> <\/p>\n

Highlights of this year\u2019s Birmingham Weekend include Autin Dance Theatre\u2019s breathtaking aerial performance<\/strong>, Up in the Sky, on Rotunda Square; Tilly Ingram\u2019s intimate birdwatching experience<\/strong>, where she shares her passion for wildlife as a disabled woman, on Edgbaston Street; and the Brum in Colour Mural<\/strong> in Chaophraya Square.<\/p>\n

A diverse and dynamic programme of dance, theatre and movement also awaits inside the Bullring\u2014including a living, breathing ritual fusing street dance, rollerskating, live DJing and circus<\/strong> (Inviktus Collective\u2019s A Place Between Mass and Echoes) and a heartwarming hip-hop theatre story<\/strong> of love across generations ( Go Grandad Go! by Company DHW).<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, New Street Station transforms into a stage with Mish Weaver\u2019s Waiting Song, a lyrical conversation between two trapeze artists<\/strong>; What Are You Waiting For?, an installation inspired by the Before I Die public art project; and Birmingham is Waiting For\u2026, a powerful spoken word performance<\/strong> from Birmingham\u2019s Poet Laureate, Ayan Aden.<\/p>\n
