<\/p>\nWavertree dad Danny Blair is hoping to raise \u00a34,000 with a 24-hour dance marathon to help send his children\u2019s dance school to Disneyland Paris.<\/p>\n
The Liverpool University lecturer will be throwing some shapes in St Stephen\u2019s URC scout hut in Lance Lane from 7pm tomorrow until the same time on Sunday.<\/p>\n
And the money he raises will help fund a trip for Cody Urban Dance school that son Archie, 12, and nine-year-old daughter Ella go to to perform on the Videopolis stage at Disneyland in October.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a huge coup for the Liverpool dance school \u2013 which performed at the recent Zoe\u2019s Place Concert at M&S Bank Arena and raised hundreds to save Zoe\u2019s Place Baby Hospice (now called Little Lights) \u2013 to be asked to perform in front of a Disney audience, but it needs to raise more than \u00a322,000 for accommodation and resort passes to make sure every child chosen \u2013 including Archie and Ella \u2013 has the chance to go.<\/p>\n
Danny, who teaches therapeutic radiography and oncology, says: <\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone who knows me knows that I don\u2019t have a problem making a fool of myself, and I was trying to think of something to do to raise money that would attract attention.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo this is a bit mad.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m 42, I\u2019m a bit overweight \u2013 and I\u2019m definitely not a dancer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI have a few dad dance moves that I\u2019m well known for including my arms going round like a windmill and dropping a grenade on the dancefloor, but when I tell people I\u2019m doing a danceathon, the usual reaction is \u2018what you?!!\u2019 So I thought it might get a bit of traction and raise a lot of cash.\u201d<\/p>\n
Danny, who also has a 10-year-old daughter Annie with wife Clare, is planning to start off his marathon effort with random Spotify tunes and hoping the music streaming service will suggest a few different tracks he can get moving to.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne thought I had was playing the songs that get you OFF the dancefloor so that would be a challenge, like Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams, so I might dance for a whole hour to that.\u201d<\/p>\n
He\u2019s also got local DJs La Rumba and Jimmy Allen spinning some tracks to get him \u2013 and keep him -going.<\/p>\n

A dancer Danny isn\u2019t:<\/p>\n
\u201cI went to one of Archie\u2019s breakdancing classes and I looked like I was having a medical emergency,\u201d he grins. \u201cIn fact there could be an actual medical emergency with me trying to dance for 24 hours. Maybe I should have an ambulance or defibrillator on standby?!\u201d<\/p>\n
But he\u2019s happy to do anything to help his kids and their school get to Disney: \u201cI\u2019ve even pledged to dance in stilettoes for an hour if one person promises to donate \u00a3100, and the last time I tried on a pair of heels they were my mum\u2019s and I was about two \u2013 and I fell off them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Danny is though no stranger to whacky fundraising ideas having pledged to collect \u00a310,000 for Clatterbridge Cancer Centre where he used to work as a treatment radiographer if anyone gave him a ticket to the Liverpool v Chelsea game in the Premier League title race in 2014.<\/p>\n
True to his word when someone came up with a ticket, he came up with 11 running challenges to make sure he raised the \u00a310,000 he\u2019d promised.<\/p>\n
\u201cDancing for 24 hours will be hard.\u00a0 It\u2019s going to be tough,\u201d he says. \u201cBut in my job I see the most inspirational people who, in their darkest times, find time to have a laugh and fun.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat I\u2019m doing should be easy compared with what they have to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Danny is streaming the whole 24 hours and hopes watching him smile through his struggles will encourage people to add to the \u00a31,400 he\u2019s already secured.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be nice if we can get to, or above, \u00a34,000 \u2013 and get the group from Cody Urban Dance to Disney,\u201d he smiles.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy kids know I\u2019m a bit mad so they\u2019re not surprised I\u2019m doing this, but Archie is a little embarrassed \u2013 and he did ask if I\u2019d be taking my social media account down once I\u2019ve done it.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I\u2019m doing it because I\u2019m proud of my kids. They are great humans.<\/p>\n
\u201cYoung people get a bad rap but the ones I see are supportive people who have a great sense of humour and want to get involved in stuff.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo this is for them.\u201d<\/p>\n
