The payment – designed to help with heating costs during the colder months – will be made automatically, with no need for eligible pensioners to apply.

It is expected to land in bank accounts in November, just in time for the festive season. Initially, Labour’s planned changes to the benefit would have removed support for millions of pensioners, but backlash led to a reversal of the decision.

Now, around 75% of pensioners with incomes under £35,000 will retain the allowance, reports Birmingham Live. All eligible pensioners will receive the payment upfront, although HMRC is expected to reclaim the amount from those whose annual income exceeds £35,000.

The changes mean many people who didn’t qualify in 2024 could now receive the extra support in 2025. For pensioners living on fixed incomes, the reinstated support could provide much-needed stability in the face of high energy bills and continued cost of living pressures.

READ NEXT

BIG SUPPORT: People aged over 80 will get an extra £100 boost (Image: iStockphoto/ Getty) Around nine million…

[3093
51,1267,474,1232,6096,2074,3126,2499,1786,16,15
0":"post-328373","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-personal-finance","8":"tag-business","9":"tag-dwp","10":"tag-finance","11":"tag-money","12":"tag-national","13":"tag-pension","14":"tag-pensioners","15":"tag-personal-finance","16":"tag-state-pension","17":"tag-uk","18":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
