Families visiting a medieval monument in East Lancashire will get to see a rare spectacle this summer holiday. Clitheroe Castle,<\/a> which dates from the 12th Century, is an hour’s drive from Liverpool and will welcome leading European<\/a> martial arts organisation the Silver School of Arms on Sunday August 17 for a showcase of weapon handling and sword combat.<\/p>\n The organisation, named after following the methods of Elizabethan swordsman George Silver, employs a range of weaponry, including backswords, longswords, arming swords and rapiers, alongside companion weapons, such as daggers, buckler shields and even cloaks.<\/p>\n The complimentary event, called “Day of Knights” will run between 11am and 3.30pm.<\/p>\n Guests will have the chance to meet the specialists and discover more about the weapons, which are modelled on genuine examples, while the demonstrations will showcase historically accurate costume and fighting techniques, reports Lancs Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n Clitheroe Castle Museum Manager Claire Sutton said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for families to witness the world of medieval combat in the historic setting of Clitheroe Castle, so come and join us for this fun and informative day for all.”<\/p>\n While entry to the event is complimentary, there remains an admission fee to the museum galleries and children must be supervised at all times.<\/p>\n Museum entry costs \u00a35.10 for adults and is complimentary for people aged 18 and under.<\/p>\n Clitheroe Castle is offering a host of summer holiday activities throughout August, with an enchanted trails competition where youngsters can search the museum galleries for hidden knights and princesses.<\/p>\n A goody bag awaits those who find them all.<\/p>\n In addition to this, visitors can also engage in knightly crafts like creating a feathered fortress.<\/p>\n Admission prices, which include entry to the museum, start from just \u00a31.<\/p>\n The Clitheroe Castle Museum is managed by Lancashire County Council’s Museum Service on behalf of Ribble Valley Borough Council.<\/p>\n For the latest news and breaking news visit liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news<\/a><\/p>\n Get all the big headlines, pictures, analysis, opinion and video on the stories that matter to you by signing up to our daily and breaking newsletter<\/a>.
