{"id":329625,"date":"2025-08-09T04:12:36","date_gmt":"2025-08-09T04:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/329625\/"},"modified":"2025-08-09T04:12:36","modified_gmt":"2025-08-09T04:12:36","slug":"ukrainian-women-at-the-front-lines-of-resistance-and-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/329625\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukrainian women at the front lines of resistance and recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In times of war, when laws and budgets do not pay attention to women\u2019s needs and realities, equality suffers setbacks that take decades \u2013 or generations \u2013 to reverse. UN Women advises the Government of Ukraine and lawmakers on legal and policy changes that protect women and girls and safeguard their rights. Since 2022, more than 15 laws, policies and strategies have been passed in Ukraine which advance women\u2019s access to rights and services, and to support their full and equal participation in decision-making.<\/p>\n<p>While international aid is critical for Ukraine, out of the USD 19.2 billion allocable aid in 2023, only USD 3.6 billion included any gender equality objectives,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/one.oecd.org\/document\/DCD\/DAC\/GEN(2025)1\/en\/pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to the OECD<\/a>. Within the aid given to Ukraine that year, less than half a per cent was dedicated to gender equality as the principal objective.<\/p>\n<p>As Ukraine rebuilds from war, how money is spent matters more than ever, especially for women and girls. That\u2019s why UN Women, together with its partners, has been working closely with the Ukrainian Government to make sure national budgets support gender equality. UN Women is also supporting the Alliance for Gender Responsive and Inclusive Recovery \u2013\u00a0a multistakeholder international forum of over 80 members advocating for better financing for gender equality \u2013\u00a0in Ukraine\u2019s recovery and women\u2019s leadership in decision-making.<\/p>\n<p>As a result \u2013 in a major win in 2025 \u2013 Ukraine passed a law that requires \u201cgender-responsive budgeting\u201d by all government institutions. In simple terms, it means making sure public funds go to things that truly meet all people\u2019s needs, including women and girls \u2013 like healthcare, education, jobs and safety.
