{"id":329673,"date":"2025-08-09T04:40:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-09T04:40:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/329673\/"},"modified":"2025-08-09T04:40:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-09T04:40:12","slug":"looking-back-at-roger-federers-near-perfect-tournament-in-cincinnati-where-he-didnt-drop-serve-once","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/329673\/","title":{"rendered":"Looking back at Roger Federer\u2019s near perfect tournament in Cincinnati where he\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0drop serve once"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>There are not many superlatives that haven\u2019t been exhausted when it comes to Roger Federer. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The game\u2019s greatest ever grass-court player won 20 Grand Slam titles and amassed a staggering 103 titles on the ATP Tour. <\/p>\n<p>One of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/throwbacks\/the-record-roger-federer-was-the-only-player-ever-to-hold-before-jannik-sinner-matched-it-last-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federer\u2019s records was recently broken by Jannik Sinner<\/a> but he still remains one of the greatest players to ever swing a tennis racket. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/andy-murray-admits-the-match-where-he-felt-completely-humbled-by-roger-federer-and-could-barely-win-a-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andy Murray recently raved about Federer<\/a> and a period when he was unplayable, with the Swiss superstar a constant threat whenever he was on the tennis tour. <\/p>\n<p>With the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/cincinnati-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cincinnati Open<\/a> getting underway for the top players right now, it feels poignant to look back at one of Federer\u2019s greatest ever tournaments. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-124502908-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Roger Federer at the US Open in 2011.\" class=\"wp-image-116722\" \/>Photo by Chris Trotman\/Getty ImagesRoger Federer\u2019s near perfect tournament at the Cincinnati Open<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/roger-federer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federer<\/a> was dominant on a number of occasions at the peak of his powers and in 2015, he absolutely blew the field away at the Cincinnati Open. <\/p>\n<p>The eight-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a> champion raced through the draw and lifted the title without dropping his serve once during the tournament. <\/p>\n<p>Federer defeated Roberto Bautista Agut, Kevin Anderson, Feliciano Lopez, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andy-murray\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andy Murray<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Novak Djokovic<\/a> without the loss of a single set. <\/p>\n<p>He won the Cincinnati Open seven times and quite clearly he absolutely loved playing in the warm-up event ahead of the US Open, with Federer losing in a 2018 final against Djokovic. <\/p>\n<p>Federer thrashes Djokovic in the Cincinnati Open final in 2015<\/p>\n<p>This was a clash between the top two seeds and in fairness, it was likely anticipated that it would be a closer affair, with Djokovic actually starting as the top seed. <\/p>\n<p>Federer wasn\u2019t in the mood for messing around though, and managed to come through the match in straight sets, winning 7-6, 6-3. <\/p>\n<p>The Swiss performer was unreal throughout the tournament and after the match, he was interviewed, where he stated that this was the \u2018perfect tournament\u2019 from his point of view. <\/p>\n<p>Federer wasn\u2019t at his glittering best in 2015 and failed to win a Grand Slam title.
