{"id":329894,"date":"2025-08-09T06:43:18","date_gmt":"2025-08-09T06:43:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/329894\/"},"modified":"2025-08-09T06:43:18","modified_gmt":"2025-08-09T06:43:18","slug":"morrisons-to-close-54-cafes-in-uk-full-list-uk-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/329894\/","title":{"rendered":"Morrisons to close 54 cafes in UK &#8211; full list | UK | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Supermarket chain <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury&#039;s drivers miss out on cheaper petrol from rival\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/life-style\/cars\/2092544\/morrisons-tesco-sainsburys-asda-petrol-prices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Morrisons<\/a> will <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Morrisons axes 3,600 jobs in mass store closure move \u2013 full list of shops shut\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/uk\/2091237\/morrisons-cuts-3600-jobs-store-closures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">close more than 50 of its in-store cafes<\/a> and a number of Morrisons Daily convenience stores across the UK, as part of a restructuring programme that will see over 3,600 jobs lost in the latest blow to the British high street.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes as the retailer reports a <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Morrisons revival on track after strong first half earnings\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/finance\/city\/854543\/Morrisons-profit-first-half-earnings-revival-on-track-David-Potts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">return to profit<\/a> for the first time since its 2021 private equity takeover, posting \u00a32.1 billion pre-tax profit for the year ending October 27, 2024, compared to losses of \u00a3919 million the year before and \u00a31.3 billion the year prior to that. A large part of that profit, \u00a32.6 billion, was generated from the sale of its petrol forecourts to <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury&#039;s payment changes at petrol stations\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/life-style\/cars\/1950191\/petrol-payments-tesco-asda-morrisons-sainsburys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Motor Fuel Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While the forecourt sale accounted for much of the profit rebound, Morrisons\u2019 underlying performance also improved, with losses in continuing operations halving to \u00a3538 million from \u00a31.09 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The chain recorded a\u00a03.9% rise in like-for-like sales\u00a0and a\u00a04.2% increase in total sales\u00a0to \u00a33.9 billion in the second quarter of its current financial year.<\/p>\n<p>However, newly filed accounts at Companies House reveal the company has\u00a0reduced its workforce from 104,819 to 101,144, with store staff, manufacturing, distribution, and head office roles all affected.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Executive\u00a0Rami Baitie\u0301h\u00a0said the focus remained on providing value to customers during a challenging economic climate marked by inflation and subdued consumer spending.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Morrisons confirmed it would shut 17 Morrisons Daily stores, with the final outlet in Haxby, North Yorkshire, closing on 14 May. It has also now confirmed the closure of\u00a0more than 50 in-store caf\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>The closures are part of wider cost-cutting measures seen across the supermarket sector.
