(Image credit: NASA TV)<\/p>\n<p id=\"9ff04091-84fb-4078-9e83-e0f4bfea26b0\">As its name suggests, Crew-10 is the 10th operational astronaut mission that SpaceX has flown to and from the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/16748-international-space-station.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/16748-international-space-station.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Space Station<\/a> (ISS) for NASA, via the agency&#8217;s Commercial Crew Program (CCP).<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"9ff04091-84fb-4078-9e83-e0f4bfea26b0-1\">The crewmembers are Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers of NASA, Takuya Onishi of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22672-japan-aerospace-exploration-agency.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22672-japan-aerospace-exploration-agency.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JAXA<\/a> (the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and Kirill Peskov of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22724-roscosmos.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22724-roscosmos.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roscosmos<\/a>, Russia&#8217;s space agency. McClain commands Crew-10, Ayers is the pilot and Onishi and Peskov are mission specialists.<\/p>\n<p>The flight launched atop a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18853-spacex.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18853-spacex.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SpaceX<\/a> Falcon 9 rocket <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/international-space-station\/spacex-launches-relief-crew-for-nasas-beleaguered-starliner-astronauts-on-iss-video\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/international-space-station\/spacex-launches-relief-crew-for-nasas-beleaguered-starliner-astronauts-on-iss-video\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on March 14<\/a> and arrived at the orbiting lab two days later. Crew-10&#8217;s four astronauts soon set to conducting science work, which consumed much of their time over the ensuing months.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During their stay in space, the crew studied space-caused mental and physical changes in astronauts, blood flow from the brain to the heart, future lunar navigation techniques and more,&#8221; NASA officials wrote in a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/blogs\/spacestation\/2025\/08\/04\/station-expands-to-11-before-next-crew-leaves-this-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/blogs\/spacestation\/2025\/08\/04\/station-expands-to-11-before-next-crew-leaves-this-week\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"noopener\">blog post on Monday<\/a> (Aug. 4).<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<p>The wheels for Crew-10&#8217;s departure began turning last Saturday (Aug. 2), when SpaceX&#8217;s four-person Crew-11 mission <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/human-spaceflight\/watch-spacexs-crew-11-astronauts-arrive-at-the-iss-early-aug-2\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/human-spaceflight\/watch-spacexs-crew-11-astronauts-arrive-at-the-iss-early-aug-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">arrived at the ISS<\/a>. The Crew-10 astronauts spent a few days advising their replacements, then set their minds to gearing up for the return to <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Earth<\/a> \u2014 and reflecting on their orbital experience.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We got to accomplish a lot of really amazing operational things,&#8221; Ayers said during a farewell ceremony on Tuesday (Aug. 5).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We got to see some amazing views, and we have had some really big belly laughs and a wonderful time together,&#8221; she added. &#8220;I think that [we&#8217;re] leaving with a heart full of gratitude, and [we&#8217;re] excited to see where the International Space Station goes after we get home.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"f8f75de7-81d5-4813-a84d-00a35df356da\">The hatches between Endurance and the ISS closed on Friday (Aug. 8) at 4:20 p.m. EDT (2020 GMT), and the capsule <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/international-space-station\/spacex-crew-10-astronauts-undocking\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/international-space-station\/spacex-crew-10-astronauts-undocking\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">undocked about two hours later<\/a>, at 6:15 p.m. EDT (2205 GMT).<strong> <\/strong>Endurance then began maneuvering its way back to Earth, setting up its planned splashdown today.<\/p>\n<p>It will be the first Pacific Ocean return for a SpaceX CCP mission; all previous such flights have come down off the Florida coast. SpaceX <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacex-crew-9-iss-astronaut-space-junk-dragon\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/spacex-crew-9-iss-astronaut-space-junk-dragon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently shifted to West Coast reentries<\/a> for all of its Dragon missions, both crewed and uncrewed, to minimize the chance that falling <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/kessler-syndrome-space-debris\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/kessler-syndrome-space-debris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">space debris<\/a> could damage property or injure people.<\/p>\n<p>Crew-10 won&#8217;t be the first SpaceX astronaut mission of any type to land in the Pacific, however; the private <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/private-spaceflight\/spacexs-private-fram2-astronauts-splash-down-on-earth-ending-historic-polar-orbit-expedition\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/private-spaceflight\/spacexs-private-fram2-astronauts-splash-down-on-earth-ending-historic-polar-orbit-expedition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fram2<\/a> and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/private-spaceflight\/private-ax-4-astronauts-splash-down-aboard-spacex-capsule-to-conclude-iss-mission\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/private-spaceflight\/private-ax-4-astronauts-splash-down-aboard-spacex-capsule-to-conclude-iss-mission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axiom 4<\/a> flights did so earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Crew-10 is the first spaceflight for Ayers and Peskov and the second for McClain and Onishi.
