Liverpool will get a final tune-up for their Premier League<\/a> title defence when Sunday\u2019s Community Shield pits them against Crystal Palace<\/a> in what Arne Slot<\/a> has called a \u201cgood challenge\u201d for his side.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Slot has been busy strengthening a squad that won the league by 10 points last term by spending the best part of \u00a3300million on midfielder Florian Wirtz<\/a>, forward Hugo Ekitike<\/a>, left-back Milos Kerkez<\/a>, right-back Jeremie Frimpong<\/a> and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili<\/a>, with more incomings possible.<\/p>\n

After a pre-season campaign in which they have faced Preston, Stoke, AC Milan<\/a>, Yokohama F. Marinos and Athletic Bilbao, Sunday\u2019s trip to Wembley will be their first meeting with Premier League<\/a> opposition since Palace held Slot\u2019s men to a 1-1 draw on the final day of last season.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is nice if you can start the season with the chance of winning something,\u201d Slot said. \u201cNormally you have to play numerous games before you can win something. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf it\u2019s the League Cup<\/a>, FA Cup<\/a>, let alone (the) Premier League<\/a> or Champions League<\/a>, normally you win something in the end of the season. Now we have a chance to win something in the beginning of the season. <\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, we face a very good Crystal Palace<\/a> that have been very difficult to win against for us, because we played 1-1 against them in the last game of the season. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey showed in the last final \u2013 and even in the semi-final, by the way, as well \u2013 how difficult it is to win a one-off game (against) them. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think most of the players that they have are still there, so even more reason to know what a difficult team it is to play against.\u201d<\/p>\n

Palace upset the odds to beat Manchester City<\/a> 1-0 in the FA Cup<\/a> final in May after a 3-0 semi-final win over Aston Villa<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Oliver Glasner\u2019s side overcame a poor start to the campaign to set a new club record for Premier League<\/a> points and also made the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cCounter-attacks, set-pieces, long balls to (Jean-Philippe) Mateta\u2026they have also the individual quality of their forwards who can create something out of nothing,\u201d Slot said of Sunday\u2019s opponents. \u201cThey are a very good team.<\/p>\n

\u201cBilbao and Milan and (Yokohama) also gave us a lot of competition and that is what Palace are going to do because they kept their team together so they will hit the ground running again. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey are still the same team \u2013 a team that performed really well especially at the end of last season so it\u2019s a good challenge for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Alexis Mac Allister<\/a>, who had a delayed start to pre-season after suffering an injury at the end of last term, is a contender to start at Wembley after playing 25 minutes against Yokohama last week and a little under an hour of a friendly against Athletic Bilbao on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was out for two months I think, or longer because we didn\u2019t play him in the last four games of the season,\u201d Slot said. \u201cHe trained with us since a week now, played 30 minutes, 45 minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that\u2019s not a situation where you would start a player (and) play him for 90 minutes.
