Located on the outskirts of the city centre nestled by the River Irwell, Peel Park<\/a> is somewhere that\u2019s beloved by local residents but remains under the radar to those visiting from further afield.<\/p>\n

A 30 minute walk along Chapel Street from the city centre will take you to this glorious green space, where vast lawns are overlooked by towering trees and people picnic beside beautiful flower beds.<\/p>\n

Approach the park from this direction and you\u2019ll be able to look down upon the river as it bends towards the A6.<\/p>\n

In the distance you can even see the distant rolling landscape of Lancashire<\/a> in the north.<\/p>\n

A path beside the University of Salford<\/a> takes you down towards the park, with the river to your right and the green lawns to your left.<\/p>\n

Close to the entrance is a children\u2019s playground and when the sun\u2019s out you\u2019ll find an ice cream van parked up, usually with a small queue of customers patiently waiting for their sweet treat.<\/p>\n

The beauty of Peel Park is that it has a space for everyone. Shady spots under the trees provide the ideal spot for a picnic, the path beside the river is ideal for runners and the huge lawn is perfect for playing games.<\/p>\n

For those seeking a longer walk, Peel Park connects to the Meadow via a footbridge; it\u2019s a huge field nestled in the loop of the river, with different paths winding through it.<\/p>\n

With a playground and lots of space for kids to run around, the park is a great place to visit during the school holidays.<\/p>\n

But the park also has another feature that\u2019s great for beating boredom during the school holidays.<\/p>\n

Beside it is Salford Museum and Art Gallery, which is completely free to visit.<\/a> Throughout the school holidays it is hosting a range of activities to keep little ones entertained and features a range of temporary and permanent exhibitions.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the best part of the museum is Lark Hill Place, an authentic recreation of a Victorian Street which instantly transports you back in time. It has life-size original shop fronts and objects which transport you to life in a Victorian street in Salford.<\/p>\n

Salford Museum and Art Gallery is free to visit although donations are welcome. It\u2019s open Tuesday – Friday 9.30am to 4pm, and Saturday-Sunday 11.30am to 4pm. It is closed Mondays and on bank holidays.<\/p>\n

There is a small car park in front of the museum which starts from \u00a32.50 for up to three hours. Salford Crescent train station is only a two minute walk away.<\/p>\n
