{"id":330300,"date":"2025-08-09T10:22:20","date_gmt":"2025-08-09T10:22:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/330300\/"},"modified":"2025-08-09T10:22:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-09T10:22:20","slug":"campaigners-seek-to-ground-passenger-hostile-eu-proposal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/330300\/","title":{"rendered":"Campaigners seek to ground \u2018passenger-hostile\u2019 EU proposal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n         Published on<br \/>\n            08\/08\/2025 &#8211; 12:47 GMT+2\n            <\/p>\n<p>          <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-ad__placeholder__logo\" src=\"https:\/\/static.euronews.com\/website\/images\/logos\/logo-euronews-stacked-outlined-72x72-grey-9.svg\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n          ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/citizens-initiative.europa.eu\/initiatives\/details\/2025\/000003_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>new citizens\u2019 initiative<\/strong><\/a> is now collecting signatures to reverse\u00a0what campaigners call a \u201cpassenger-hostile\u201d EU proposal \u2014 one they say would cost air travellers across Europe money, time, and rights.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After over a decade of legislative impasse, EU governments are worsening the rights of EU passengers, and we intend to enable Europeans to speak out and against this,&#8221; professor Alberto Alemanno, founder of The Good Lobby and one of the petition\u2019s organisers, told Euronews.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While such an initiative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/my-europe\/2025\/08\/08\/with-fewer-than-10-answered-are-european-citizens-initiatives-missing-the-mark\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>doesn\u2019t force the Commission<\/strong><\/a> to draft new laws, it does require a formal response within six months \u2014 including an explanation if it chooses not to act.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Under current EU rules, passengers can claim <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/my-europe\/2025\/03\/31\/will-european-air-passengers-receive-less-compensation-in-the-future\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>between \u20ac250 and \u20ac600<\/strong><\/a> in compensation for delays of at least three hours.
