{"id":330335,"date":"2025-08-09T10:41:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-09T10:41:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/330335\/"},"modified":"2025-08-09T10:41:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-09T10:41:17","slug":"daniil-medvedev-praises-cincinnati-open-organizers-for-doing-something-other-masters-1000-tournaments-dont-bother-with","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/330335\/","title":{"rendered":"Daniil Medvedev praises Cincinnati Open organizers for doing something other Masters 1000 tournaments don&#8217;t bother with"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Daniil Medvedev\u2019s form has been stagnant for some time now, as he continues to slide down the rankings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The hard-court specialist travelled to North America with high hopes, but has failed to deliver any noteworthy performances as of yet.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/washington-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington Open<\/a> campaign with wins over Reilly Opelka and Yunchaokete Bu, things were looking good for Medvedev before he fell to Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n<p>Heading north, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/daniil-medvedev\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Medvedev<\/a> struggled past Czech youngster Dalibor Srvcina in his Toronto opener to set up a third-round tie with the defending champion.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2227234827-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Daniil Medvedev returns the ball to Alexei Popyrin at the 2025 Canadian Open\" class=\"wp-image-116959\" \/>Photo by Julian Avram\/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately for the former world number one, it was there that his run came to an end, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/daniil-medvedev-explains-why-he-was-proud-despite-losing-to-alexei-popyrin-in-toronto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Medvedev lost to Alexei Popyrin<\/a> in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 4-6.<\/p>\n<p>Now in Cincinnati for the final warm-up event before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Open<\/a>, Medvedev has given his verdict on the work done by tournament organizers over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>Daniil Medvedev claims Cincinnati Open organizers have done a \u2018great job\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>As part of a $260 million investment into the future of the tournament, organizers renovated the venue ahead of the 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/cincinnati-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cincinnati Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With many praising the work done, Medvedev suggested he had \u2018only good things\u2019 to say about the tournament in Cincinnati.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always liked this tournament, even though it was a bit smaller, older, and so on. Now it\u2019s even better. Great facilities, great conditions for players,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great tournament, nothing bad to say, only good things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Medvedev was then asked whether he believes the Cincinnati Open now feels like a \u2018fifth Grand Slam\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, it does,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-1229452216-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Daniil Medvedev makes a thumbs up gesture at the 2020 Paris Masters\" class=\"wp-image-119055\" \/>Photo by FRANCK FIFE\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very similar to Shanghai; Shanghai is also very big, and it really feels like that. If I remember correctly, Shanghai is sometimes considered the fifth Grand Slam or maybe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/indian-wells\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indian Wells<\/a> too, but here, it\u2019s probably even better than Indian Wells in terms of conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Medvedev commended the tournament for making improvements, as he suggested other events wouldn\u2019t bother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve done a great job, and it\u2019s always nice when tournaments make an effort for players, because some Masters 1000 events, they have their licenses, so as long as they don\u2019t mess up too badly, they\u2019re fine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, when the tournament makes an effort, it\u2019s always appreciated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Russian star was then asked the obligatory question about the court conditions, which continue to vary on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP Tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2166941313-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"A view from above in Cincinnati at the 2024 tournament\" class=\"wp-image-118928\" \/>Photo by Dylan Buell\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey change every year here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor example, the last two years, they were completely different from, let\u2019s say, five years ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year, they\u2019re a bit slower than they were before, it seems.
