They dallied on long-term target James Trafford to come into their goalkeeping ranks, being ousted by Manchester City at the last moment for the Burnley star, whilst a whole array of attacking targets have chosen other Premier League clubs. Benjamin Sesko was the subject of two bids from the Tyneside outfit before joining Manchester United, whilst Chelsea beat them to the double arrival of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro – and with Hugo Ekitike opting for a switch to Liverpool, it’s been a dismal window so far in the north-east.

Report: Malick Thiaw ‘One Step Away’ from Newcastle Move

Only Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga and Southampton stopper Aaron Ramsdale have joined the Magpies, though they are looking to turn around their poor fortunes – and Thiaw could break that duck by moving to St. James’ Park shortly.

The report by Footmercato journalist Daniele Longo states that Thiaw is ‘one step away’ from a move to Newcastle, with a deal potentially being finalised in the next 24 to 48 hours.

There is a full agreement on his personal terms ahead of a proposed move to Tyneside for the 6ft 4in star, whilst the Magpies are close to an agreement with Milan over a transfer fee. That could see the Rossoneri accept a bid of £34million including add-ons, with Eddie Howe keen to bolster his backline for the long-term.

Fabian Schar and Dan Burn have both entered their mid-thirties, and alongside Lloyd Kelly’s short spell at the club seeing him end up at Juventus, it leaves only Sven Botman as a long-term option at the club. Newcastle have tried to remedy that in the past, with a move for Marc Guehi having been in their sights – but the Magpies have remained unsuccessful in their bid to land the Crystal Palace captain, seemingly turning to Thiaw as a result.

The Germany international began his career at Schalke, before joining Milan in 2022. First-team minutes have been hard to come by for the defensive star, only playing in 63 of a possible 114 Serie A games since his move to the San Siro – but Newcastle could offer him a real run of guaranteed game time if they can get the deal over the line.

Sign up to The GIVEMESPORT Report to get exclusive daily updates from Fabrizio Romano, Ben Jacobs, Dean Jones and Tom Bogert sent straight to your inbox.

Newcastle United could be set to make their third major signing of the summer, according to reports –…

[4100
94,79,16,15
0":"post-331008","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-football","8":"tag-football","9":"tag-sports","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
