But there are certain rules claimants must adhere to or risk a fine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This benefit, delivered by the<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chroniclelive.co.uk\/all-about\/dwp\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" Department for Work and PensionsLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> Department for Work and Pensions<\/a>, is paid at two different rates. How much you get depends on the level of care you need because of your disability or health condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You could get \u00a373.90 or \u00a3110.40 a week to help with personal support if both of the following apply &#8211; you have a physical disability, a mental disability, or a health condition and you\u2019re <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chroniclelive.co.uk\/all-about\/pensions\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"State PensionLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> age or older. It does not cover mobility needs. The reminder about Attendance Allowance comes as<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chroniclelive.co.uk\/news\/cost-of-living\/dwp-state-pensioners-warned-over-32199879\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" pensioners were warned of the risk of losing Pension Credit due to an &quot;unfair&quot; savings ruleLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> pensioners were warned of the risk of losing Pension Credit due to an &#8220;unfair&#8221; savings rule<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The DWP makes it clear that people who receive Attendance Allowance must report certain changes to the department. It says: &#8220;If your circumstances change, the amount you get from Attendance Allowance may go up or down.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It further warns: &#8220;You could be taken to court or have to pay a penalty if you give wrong information or do not report a change in your circumstances.&#8221; Below is a list of things that must be declared to the DWP.<\/p>\n<p>What you must report to the DWP<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You must contact the Attendance Allowance helpline straight away if:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"NumberedList_numbered-list__oytz_\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">the level of help you need or your condition changes &#8211; you\u2019ll need to provide details like if the amount of times you need help each day has changed<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">you go into hospital or a care home &#8211; you\u2019ll need to provide the address, the dates you\u2019ve been there for, and how your stay is paid for<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">a medical professional has said you might have 12 months or less to live (you could get Attendance Allowance at a higher rate under \u2018special rules for end of life\u2019)<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">you plan to leave the country for more than 4 weeks<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">you go into prison<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">you change your name, address or bank details<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">you want to stop receiving your benefit<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">your doctor\u2019s details change<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">your immigration status changes, if you\u2019re not a British citizen<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Attendance Allowance helpline is 0800 731 0122. It operates from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.<\/p>\n<p>What happens if you\u2019ve been paid too much<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">According to the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/attendance-allowance\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Government websiteLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Government website<\/a>, you may have to repay the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chroniclelive.co.uk\/all-about\/your-money\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"money Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">money <\/a>if you:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">did not report a change straight away<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">gave wrong information<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">were overpaid by mistake<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Who is eligible for Attendance Allowance<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You can get Attendance Allowance if you\u2019ve reached State Pension age and the following apply:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">you have a physical disability (including sensory disability, for example blindness), a mental disability (including learning difficulties), or a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chroniclelive.co.uk\/news\/health\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"health conditionLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">health condition<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">your disability or health condition is severe enough for you to need help caring for yourself or someone to supervise you, for your own or someone else\u2019s safety<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">you have needed that help for at least 6 months<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You must also:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">be in Great Britain when you claim &#8211; there are some exceptions, such as members and family members of the armed forces<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">have been in Great Britain for at least 2 of the last 3 years (this does not apply if you\u2019re a refugee or have humanitarian protection status)<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">be habitually resident in the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">not be subject to immigration control (unless you\u2019re a sponsored immigrant)<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">not get Disability Living Allowance (DLA), <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chroniclelive.co.uk\/all-about\/pip\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Personal Independence Payment (PIP)Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Personal Independence Payment (PIP)<\/a>, Adult Disability Payment (ADP) or Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance (SADLA)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">We have a dedicated newsletter for ChronicleLive\u2019s money-saving and cost of living stories.
