A man has been arrested after a security alert in Co Tyrone which forced some residents to leave their homes. <\/p>\n

\u2018Viable devices\u2019 were found in a property in Moy, with controlled explosions carried out, police said.<\/p>\n

The operation began yesterday evening, with the Oakfield Gardens area of the town cordoned off, and ended earlier today. <\/p>\n

Some homes were evacuated, with a local sports club opening its doors to those affected. They have since been allowed back to their homes.<\/p>\n

Police said it was an \u201cextremely distressing experience\u201d for those affected.<\/p>\n

In an update this morning, Detective Sergeant Dougherty said: \u201cPolice received a report of a suspicious object at a residential property shortly before 4.40pm on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cOfficers attended the scene, and a public safety operation commenced. Cordons were put in place and a number of local residents had to be evacuated from their homes overnight.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmmunition Technical Officers determined that there were a number of viable devices in the property and carried out controlled explosions, before residents were able to return to their homes on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

“There is no further risk to the public, but officers remain in the area this morning as part of our ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was an extremely distressing experience for residents, and we understand the impact of the disruption faced. We are grateful for their support and cooperation as we worked to keep everyone safe.<\/p>\n

“One man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances. He remains in custody at this time, assisting with enquiries.<\/p>\n
