Little Simz<\/a> has opened up about filing a lawsuit against her former producer Inflo<\/a>, saying she was \u201creally frustrated and hurt\u201d.<\/p>\n

Last month, it emerged that the UK rapper \u2013 real name Simbiatu Ajikawo \u2013 had filed the claim against Dean \u201cInflo\u201d Cover<\/a>, the founder of SAULT<\/a> and the producer of multiple Simz albums, including 2019\u2019s \u2018GREY Area<\/a>\u2019, 2021\u2019s Mercury winner \u2018Sometimes I Might Be Introvert<\/a>\u2019 and 2022\u2019s \u2018No Thank You<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n

The suit saw Simz accuse Inflo of withholding loans she had made to him \u2013 to a total of \u00a31.7million \u2013 for over a year, as well as claiming he did not properly account for funds provided by Sony to cover recording costs.<\/p>\n

Among the allegations is the claim that Simz lent Inflo \u00a31million to lock in the only SAULT show to date, which was held at Drumsheds in London<\/a>. The suit asserts that the condition for the gig was that Inflo was to repay Simz by early December 2023, but it claims he failed to do so. Simz was therefore allegedly unable to pay her tax liabilities in full and received interest charges.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Inflo has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n

Now, in a new interview with Billboard<\/a>, Simz has spoken for the first time about the case. She revealed that while working on the follow-up to \u2018No Thank You\u2019, she started and then abandoned four separate album projects, which she suggests were all being made alongside Inflo.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were great, but it\u2019s more the situation of who I made them with,\u201d Simz said about the scrapped albums. \u201cIn letting go of that relationship, I had to let go of that music\u2026 It\u2019s like having a kid with someone. You might split with the person, but you don\u2019t just stop loving the kid.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simz\u2019 new album \u2019Lotus\u2019 will be released on June 6<\/a>, and has been previewed by the single \u2018Flood<\/a>\u2019. According to Billboard, the record\u2019s opener will also address the Inflo situation directly with the lyrics: \u201cI\u2019m lucky that I got out now \/ It\u2019s a shame, I really feel sorry for your wife\u2026This person I\u2019ve known my whole life, coming like a devil in disguise\u201d.<\/p>\n

Speaking about how her motivations were influenced by the breakdown of her relationship with Inflo, she told Billboard: \u201cI was really frustrated and hurt, and I wanted to scream. But it\u2019s tricky starting off on that foot sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simz and Inflo met as children at St. Mary\u2019s Youth Club in London, and Simz has been closely associated with SAULT\u2019s work, appearing at the Drumshed show herself alongside Inflo\u2019s wife Cleo Sol<\/a> and Michael Kiwanuka<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before the release of \u2018Lotus\u2019,\u00a0Little Simz will be curating the 2025 edition of Meltdown Festival<\/a>\u00a0at London\u2019s Southbank Centre, where\u00a0she will be performing a one-off orchestral show<\/a>.\u00a0The Streets<\/a>,\u00a0Lola Young<\/a>,\u00a0Ghetts<\/a>,\u00a0Jon Batiste<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Little Dragon<\/a>\u2019s Yukimi will also appear across the 11-day event.<\/p>\n

She will also be playing her biggest ever headline shows this October<\/a>, at Manchester\u2019s Co-Op Live and London\u2019s O2.
