Police have issued a warning to people attending Manchester’s Caribbean Carnival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

One of the UK\u2019s longest-running Caribbean carnivals has returned this weekend with a huge celebration at Alexandra Park, near Whalley Range<\/a> and Moss Side<\/a>, and an incredible parade featuring hundreds of dancers and troupes.<\/p>\n

This year’s event, set to be attended by close to 60,000 people, is on the theme theme of ‘unity’ – celebrating the strength, diversity and togetherness of the many communities that make up Manchester.<\/p>\n

Throughout the two-day celebration there will be a host of live entertainment, delicious food stalls, artisan vendors, and a family zone filled with activities and rides to enjoy. As ever, the event will also feature opportunities to honour Caribbean heritage as well as pay homage to community pioneers.<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Police<\/a> is working closely with organisers of the event, security and Manchester council to ensure an enjoyable atmosphere. The force said it is providing resources throughout the weekend including patrols during the carnival and being on-hand to assist with any issues that may arise.<\/p>\n

Superintendent Muz Kernain, from GMP\u2019s Manchester district, said: \u201cCaribbean Carnival is a huge date in Manchester\u2019s calendar and GMP are committed to helping organisers deliver a fun, safe, and enjoyable experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cOfficers will be on hand throughout the process of carnival, with dedicated plans in place to assist with a seamless and smooth running of the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur partnership work with Manchester Caribbean Carnival and Manchester City Council has reaffirmed our joint commitment in delivering a vibrant and safe weekend for all attendees.<\/p>\n
