homes evacuated as engineers scrambled to repair damaged gas main"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Edinburgh residents were evacuated from their homes on Thursday night (April 17) after a power line fault in the Marchmont area of the city.<\/p>\n<p>The fault on the line damaged a SGN gas main on Sciennes Road and locals were forced to leave their homes while work took place to repair the damage and make the area safe.<\/p>\n<p>Waseem Hanif, spokesperson for gas distribution company SGN, said: &#8220;We have completed repairs to our gas main in Sciennes Road, Edinburgh, following third party noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Scottish Fire and Rescue Service;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Scottish Fire and Rescue Service<\/a> attended the incident to assist but it is understood that there was no fire.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for SP Energy Networks added: \u201cOur engineers attended an incident last night near Sylvan Place in Edinburgh to make the site safe for the emergency services.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are continuing to work with them following the incident to ensure investigations can be carried out safely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An image of the road on Sylvan Place shows that a massive hole has been dug on the surface of the road, exposing the yellow gas main below, has been taped off as work continues.<\/p>\n<p><b><b>Sign up for<\/b> <a
