{"id":332518,"date":"2025-08-10T07:00:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-10T07:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/332518\/"},"modified":"2025-08-10T07:00:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-10T07:00:14","slug":"lord-coaker-the-nen-north-edinburgh-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/332518\/","title":{"rendered":"Lord Coaker \u2013 The NEN \u2013 North Edinburgh News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Small and medium businesses get a seat at the table<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Tattoo-REMT-scaled.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"660\" height=\"440\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1754809212_356_Tattoo-REMT.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-202176\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>The contribution of Scottish SMEs to the UK\u2019s national security was recognised during a roundtable held on Thursday at Edinburgh\u2019s Queen Elizabeth House, chaired by Defence Minister Lord Coaker following his visit to the Edinburgh Royal Military Tattoo.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) take part in Government roundtable in Edinburgh, discussing how defence can boost growth in Scotland.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Chaired by UK Defence Minister Lord Coaker, the roundtable follows the MoD\u2019s commitment to spend \u00a37.5 billion with SMEs by 2028.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Scotland is at the heart of UK\u2019s defence industry, keeping the UK safe at home and strong abroad, delivering on the Government\u2019s Plan for Change.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>The Minister met with representatives from eight companies, from Stirling to Forfar, to discuss their innovative work that helps keeps the country safe.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ahead of the upcoming Defence Industrial Strategy, the government has announced the intent to increase spending with SMEs by \u00a32.5 billion over the next three years, reversing the fall that was recorded before last year\u2019s election. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This government\u2019s commitment to SMEs recognises the vital role they play at all levels within the defence supply-chain \u2013 both directly and indirectly \u2013with a total of \u00a37.5 billion to be spent with SMEs by 2028. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/lord-coaker-chris-murray.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"943\" height=\"2048\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1754809214_763_lord-coaker-chris-murray.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-210872\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Defence Minister Lord Coaker said: \u201cIt was fantastic to meet many innovative Scottish companies who play a crucial role in strengthening our national security, boosting growth and providing jobs in their local communities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cBusinesses in Scotland will be among those who can benefit from the \u00a32.5 billion increase in SME spending that we will deliver, helping drive defence as an engine for economic growth \u2013 as we deliver on our Plan for Change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cAs well as being home to thousands of military personnel and major bases, defence is a key driver for renewal in Scotland, with latest statistics showing that the MOD spends more than \u00a32 billion a year with the defence sector in Scotland, supporting nearly 12,000 industry jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/s300_HMNB_Clyde.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1754809214_358_s300_HMNB_Clyde.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-210871\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Scottish Secretary, Ian Murray said:\u00a0\u201cWe are proud of Scotland\u2019s defence sector and we will always stand up for the industry and workforce. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe UK Government\u2019s historic uplift in defence spending will see a huge defence dividend for Scotland which will help ensure Britain\u2019s security, deter our adversaries and drive economic growth for years to come as part of our Plan for Change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThrough events such as today\u2019s roundtable we are working closely with industry and supply chains to maximise Scotland\u2019s defence dividend.
