A senior European official attributed Putin\u2019s willingness to meet Trump to joint pressure from Washington and its allies. It would be the first time an American president has met with Putin since Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt does not mean a deal or a truce has been agreed upon,\u201d said the White House official. \u201cThe president is discussing it with all the relevant parties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later Saturday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen along with the leaders of Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Poland and Finland issued a statement stressing the need to respect Ukraine\u2019s borders and to include Kyiv in peace negotiations. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe underline our unwavering commitment to Ukraine\u2019s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity,\u201d  the leaders said in the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/statement_25_1952\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/statement_25_1952\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cThe path to peace in Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukraine,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>Zelenskyy said in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.president.gov.ua\/en\/news\/vidpovid-na-ukrayinske-teritorialne-pitannya-ye-vzhe-v-konst-99445\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.president.gov.ua\/en\/news\/vidpovid-na-ukrayinske-teritorialne-pitannya-ye-vzhe-v-konst-99445\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement early Saturday<\/a> that Ukraine is \u201cready to work together with President Trump.\u201d But he said that decisions made without Ukraine are \u201cunworkable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny decisions that are against us, any decisions that are without Ukraine, are at the same time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.president.gov.ua\/en\/news\/vidpovid-na-ukrayinske-teritorialne-pitannya-ye-vzhe-v-konst-99445\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.president.gov.ua\/en\/news\/vidpovid-na-ukrayinske-teritorialne-pitannya-ye-vzhe-v-konst-99445\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">decisions against peace<\/a>,\u201d Zelenskyy said. \u201cThey will not achieve anything.
