A man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences following a stand-off with armed police in Sheffield.<\/p>\n
Officers were called to the Gateway apartment block on Broad Street just after 19:00 GMT on Monday to reports of a man with weapons.<\/p>\n
A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, possession of a firearm, threats to kill and communicate with a bomb hoax.<\/p>\n
In an update just after 15:30 GMT, police said residents who had been evacuated from their apartments as a result of the incident could now return home. <\/p>\n
About 100 people had been forced to spend two nights away from the their homes due to “increased risk to their safety”.<\/p>\n
The force said specialist officers had since carried out a full search of the building and it had been deemed safe.<\/p>\n
It added that all roads in the area had been reopened.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “We would like to thank those who have been affected for their continued support while emergency services conduct their work.”<\/p>\n
Sheffield Parkway, which was closed on Monday, has reopened with public transport resuming as normal.<\/p>\n
