{"id":332836,"date":"2025-08-10T09:59:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-10T09:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/332836\/"},"modified":"2025-08-10T09:59:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-10T09:59:11","slug":"sheffield-campaigners-launch-bid-to-buy-moscar-moor-for-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/332836\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield campaigners launch bid to buy Moscar Moor for community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In 2023, fires lit on the moors around Sheffield caused smoke to blanket parts of the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Following the incident the Mayor of South Yorkshire, Oliver Coppard, invited the Duke of Rutland to a &#8216;Smoke Summit&#8217;, but the Duke did not attend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Sheffield councillor and ROM supporter Minesh Parekh has called for a total ban on moorland burning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said: &#8220;I look forward to people making use of the upcoming &#8216;Community Right to Buy&#8217; legislation to bring mismanaged land into community hands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We need an immediate end to grouse shooting, an immediate end to burning.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">According to the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust, heather burning is commonly practised to manage moorland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The heather is burned off, making way for new shoots, which provide food for red grouse, deer, mountain hares and livestock.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"In 2023, fires lit on the moors around Sheffield caused smoke to blanket parts of the city.
