Thick clouds of black smoke were seen billowing across an area of Liverpool this morning (Sunday, August 10).<\/p>\n

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) rushed to a fire on Prescot Road, Old Swan, at around 10.50am.<\/p>\n

Three fire engines arrived at the scene to tackle a waste fire measuring roughly 20 metres by 20 metres.<\/p>\n

There were a number of sightings of large plumes of black smoke in the area.<\/p>\n

A photograph shared with the ECHO<\/a>, taken from Liverpool Shopping Park on Edge Lane, shows dense smoke clouds over a section of Old Swan, behind a Frankie and Benny’s restaurant.<\/p>\n

The fire was not affecting buildings, MFRS said and crews used two hose reels to fight the fire and protect the surrounding area.<\/p>\n

At 11.18am, the smoke plume had dissipated, and firefighters used three hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.<\/p>\n

At around 11.39am, the onsite manager arrived at the scene and crews continued to dampen down the affected area.<\/p>\n

The incident has since been scaled back to two fire engines in attendance, reports the Liverpool Echo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The remaining crews checked for hot spots and continued to dampen down, before packing up their equipment and leaving the scene at 12.50pm.<\/p>\n
