All roads have been reopened, but authorities issued a strict ban on accessing the forest, Pouget said at a news conference on Saturday. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fight is continuing, firefighters are still working on [fire] reignition,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/P05-250811-321.jpg\" width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Photo: Bloomberg<\/p>\n<p>The blaze left one person dead and 25 people have been injured, including 19 firefighters, he said. <\/p>\n<p>High temperatures in the coming days are expected to complicate firefighters\u2019 efforts. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fire won\u2019t be extinguished for several weeks,\u201d Aude Fire Department Director Colonel Christophe Magny said, pointing to several \u201chot spots\u201d that are being closely monitored. <\/p>\n<p>France\u2019s national weather agency Meteo France placed the southern half of France on a \u201chigh vigilance\u201d alert for heat wave, with temperatures expected in the Aude region of up to 39\u00b0C on Saturday. <\/p>\n<p>In neighboring Spain, firefighters continued to battle a wildfire in Avila province, more than 100km west of Madrid. Victor Fernandez, a technician at the advanced command post, told reporters on Saturday the fire was being contained, but warned the next hours would be \u201ccritical.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Extreme temperatures are expected to continue until at least next week, according to Spain\u2019s national weather service. <\/p>\n<p>The fire began on Friday afternoon with the Spanish Military Emergencies Unit working through the night to bring it under control and prevent it from approaching roads and train lines. <\/p>\n<p>Southern Europe has seen multiple large fires this summer.
